Seems like Valve is showing off a prototype for, what may be, the next iteration of the Vive controllers. They seem to strap to your hand to let you freely open your palm while the control surface stays within thumb's reach. This is far more intuitive as it allows you to simply hold onto the controller to simulate holding an object rather than using the triggers to simulate that functionality.

They kind of remind me of the goals of the Oculus controller and then that reminded me hey where are those controllers anyway?

The new controllers look kinda dope. I think that the fact Valve is already iterating on their design is just one more reason why I am glad I haven't picked up a VR kit yet.

Yep and the Vive controllers already have trackpads right now, some games let you use them for movement and it's so much better than stupid teleporting.

I love the current Vive controllers but if they release some that allow for hand gestures I'll upgrade.

@wynnduffy: @adequatelyprepared: The prototypes are said to feature a trigger and trackpad with 3 face buttons surrounding it. Also, there is mention of LED lights shining through the open slot between the mold halves, which seems odd. No mention of a "grip" button but claims that it can sense between an open hand and a closed grip (capacitive sensor maybe?) which allows you to virtually throw objects in the same way you would naturally; Mic Drop Simulator 2017.

    Reports from Road To VR

Something I would like to see featured would be capacitive touch on the triggers which would allow for more natural hand gestures, like pointing with the index finger, similar to how the Oculus Touch handles it.
