So I was in EB games the other day buying Burnout Paradise, when I overhear the guy in front of me in line preorder Prototype. You know the game that was delayed until late 2009 assuming it doesn't get delayed again or even canceled. (what with the layoffs and all.)
So my question is:
Should I have spoke up and helped the guy, or was I right to let him spend the 60 bucks (he payed the whole thing right there) and go home thinking he'll be playing it in a month or two.
Also, what do you think about random people helping customers. Are they just sticking their nose in other peoples business, or do you think I'd be right in suggesting to someone who is buying Two Worlds that they should get Oblivion instead.
Mind your own damn business...or not?
Haha, Prototype won't get canceled. No, there was no reason to "warn" him of anything.
I think on principle, just mind your own business.
It just depends on the wherewithal of the people behind the counter. When I worked at GameStop some of the release dates were wrong even after official announcements from the developers themselves. I think you should've helped the guy, I did that before I even worked there and I didn't get any crap for it. If the employee is smart, they'll agree with you're honesty and gain a customer out of respect.
yeah it's like someone having something in their teeth after a meal, you wouldn't let them walk out thinking they looked hot, well i would hope you wouldn't
i think you should have spoken up some people who play games just aren't paying alot of attention or don't have enough time to pay attention to release dates and reviews some times you need to help out your fellow man/women
"If I see some grossly large mistake being made, I'll step in. Otherwise, nope.
Especially since Prototype will probably pick up another publisher. Hopefully."
Activision is their publisher...
Why would they need a different one?
I usually help people all the time with game purchases and stuff, and 90% of the time they're very appreciative. But I had recently listened to a gaming podcast and they were talking about this very topic. They were all in agreement that you should butt out unless they ask for your opinion. So that kind of made me think maybe I should just let people make their own mistakes and stay out of it.
But anyway, thanks for all your input and I'm glad that I'm not doing something inappropriate by making a friendly suggestion to a stranger.
well if he does here it was cancelled i really hope it wont be. he can just get his money back or get a different game so.,, since it is in their system he doesnt have to have the receipt they probably will give him another game or his money back.
I make suggestions to clueless moms who I see in game shops and whatnot.
I once convinced a clueless mom to get his 15 year old son Uncharted instead of the Rattitouille game. I felt pretty proud after that.
i was in a computer store (PC world) overhearing a PC "expert" advise someone on there computer problems. They made the person fork out £200 on a hard drive re-installation and re-installation of vista. When the problem was obvious that it just needed a system restore. People like that frustrate me.
When it comes to the videogame store, I'm usually more knowledgeable than everyone there, including the greasy guy behind the counter. If I see someone picking up a copy of Too Human or Haze, I'll probably say something like, "Hey, have you heard anything about that game?" and see what he says, they try to recommend something better if he clearly has no clue.
