Atari Announces Dungeons & Dragons Daggerdale For Spring 2011

A downloadable hack-and-slash that centers around the struggle to defeat "the evil Rezlus and his Zhentarim."

Hey, guys, do you want to take part in the epic struggle "to defeat the evil Rezlus and his Zhentarim" in the Dungeons & Dragons universe? Great! You'll get to do just that Dungeons & Dragons Daggerdale, a downloadable hack-and-slash title set for release in Spring 2011 on XBLA, PSN, and PC.

Scratch: The Ultimate DJ developer Bedlam Games is the creating this next D&D title, which is said to support both online and local co-op for up to four players. Publisher Atari's page on the game confirms the usual fantasy stuff for Daggerdale. Expect underground lairs, magic casting, loot, quests, a deep character creation component, and a "riveting narrative."

Perhaps the most important detail we've learned since reading over the press materials is actually not mentioned in the press materials at all. Daggerdale will have skeletons. The evil, walking kind. Get your first look in the trailer just below.

Daggerdale is an absolutely awful name.

I realize it's an actual location in Forgotten Realms, but it's still an awful name.

It sounds like a town in fallout where everyone fights with knifes.

Wait. Atari still matters?

At first I thought that it would be stupid to do an action game unless it was Neverwinter Nights. Then I thought about Dark Alliance. Now that was a good game.

Remember when D&D was a really great video game franchise?
Karkarovon Dec. 22, 2010 at 4:17 p.m.
Well the original adventure module this is probably based on was fun enough so maybe I will give it a look when it comes out.  Sure seems to have plenty of skeletons in it so that makes it a winner yes?

If the loot is good, I might be interested.

Daggerdale sounds like a happenin' town.

What about Dagerfall, Dagger Springs, Dagger Isles, or Daggeringston? =)

If it's $10 I could see me picking it up.

Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Neverwinter Nights?

That being said, this doesn't look too bad.  Seems to be a typical Diablo style action RPG affair, looks a lot like Dark Alliance games and I've been waiting for something like this to come to XBLA/PSN for a long time.  Trailer wasn't particularly exciting, but if it's handled right, it should be good.

Well, I do. Baldur's Gate II, etc.

Given how many skeletons I've killed in D&D games in the past, I sure hope this one has a wider variety of enemies than the 2.5 (flaming skeletons, while cool, are still skeletons) that I saw in this.
