Bethesda Planning New Fallout For 2010

Fallout: New Vegas scheduled for 2010 release on PS3, PC, and Xbox 360.

Obsidian will develop Fallout: New Vegas.
Obsidian will develop Fallout: New Vegas.
I'm out in London today, attending an event held by Bethesda. While the details of what I've seen here will have to remain unsaid for another week or so, there's one piece that's ready to go right now.

Bethesda's Pete Hines told a room full of gathered media that the company is working on a new Fallout game called Fallout: New Vegas. The game is being developed by Obsidian Entertainment and is planned for release in 2010 on PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.

There aren't many more details than that, but Hines also mentioned that the game wasn't a sequel to Fallout 3, but it is the same sort of game. Also, he noted that it had no impact on what Todd Howard and the folks at Bethesda Game Studios were working on, which hasn't been announced yet.

BGS are surely working on New Elder Scrolls content. If you're going to make money you might as well get both franchises out on the market.

Well... alrighty. Hopefully the combat is actually fun this time around.

It should be called Old vegas just for the irony.

The real question is whether Jeff is in London, Ontario or London, England.

Great Obsidian the developer that ruins great game franchises aka. Kotor 2 and NWN2.

Fallout 3 was shit though so I don't see how it could get worse, maybe they can make great animations and combat unlike Bethesda and maybe their games wont crash if you have certain codecs installed.

Vegas, eh?  I wonder if it'll wind up looking like the sets from Resident Evil: Extinction?

I wouldn't say *ruins.* They just pick up the IP when a developer (Bioware in those two cases) wants to concentrate on new IPs.

NWN2 is an awesome game.

I was under the impression Bethesda was also working on a new Elder Scrolls game.

With Obsidian developing the new Fallout, Speculation on Bethesda developing a new Elder Scrolls is going to be sparked.

I'm not sure I like the idea of the location.  It's basically right in the same location that the 2 fallouts were already located.  Fallout 2 took place around San Fransico and Reno.  If anything it might be a rehash of Fallout 2.  And considering how Fallout turned out, I have a bad feeling about this.
trophyhunteron April 20, 2009 at 7:43 a.m.
heres hoping they will put more than 5 quests in this one

I don't have a good feeling about this. Fallout 3 was..... okay. But it just never felt Fallout-ish. Hopefully Obsidian can bring back that Fallout feeling.

*Starts singing - You've lost that Fallout feeling, whoa oh oh, that Fallout feeling. You've lost that Fallout feeling! Now its gone, gone, gone, whoa oh oh!*

Good, Obsidian has a chance to give the Fallout series some justice. Bethslop should stick to making the Elder Scrolls series.

You came all the way to London to say that? Now that is dedication.

I missed the part where Obsidian are developing this.  They had about a year to ramp up and crank out KOTOR2, and I was not a fan of that game.  Hopefully, Bethesda's code is easier to work work, and Obsidian gets more time for Quality Assurance testing this time around.

I'm not going to expect too much from Fallout Vegas.  My guess is that it'll be like a very large expansion pack, with a so-so story and quests.

Cool as it is that the former Black Isle guys (plus Matthew Rorie) are working on this, I wish Bethesda was, so that it would prevent them from making another shitty Elder Scrolls game.
