Now if they'd just let me change into one of the dudes from The Lost Vikings...
Blizzard has issued some early word on an upcoming customer service feature for World of Warcraft. The company is developing a service that, like the realm transfer system that lets players move their characters from one server to another, will allow players to flip their Alliance characters over to Horde, or vice versa.

The news comes from a post to the Blizzard boards that, like anything involving change, touched off an avalanche of comments from people who make like this is going to be the end of the world. Actually, it's a bit more even than the average announcement, as there are plenty of people piping up in there with "cool" and "wow!" messages, expressing a touch of excitement for the upcoming feature.

It's primarily going in to allow players who leveled up characters on the opposite side as their friends to swap over and join up with their posse. But there aren't really any more details about it out there, so we'll have to wait and see what sort of restrictions are applied and how, exactly, it'll all work.

I suspect Mountain Dew will be involved.

Would doing that force a server transfer as well?  I haven't played in a while but can't you not have characters of both factions in the same realm?

This might sound intriging if they let me change into The Eradicator from The Death and Return of Superman. Then i MIGHT consider playing the game...maybe...probably not but it would still be cool.

So obviously you'd have to change races, right? If that's the case, I don't see how this could be a big problem. It doesn't hurt anybody, and allows people who legitimately made the wrong choice an option of switching over. Of course, Blizzard gets to reap even more profit, and become a bloated gassbag of money.

This is long overdue in my opinion.  This change is going to let a lot of people, including myself, play with real life friends without rerolling.

Stupid idea. I miss the days when selecting a realm, a name, and a character were all serious decisions. Way to fuck WoW up, Blizzard. I'd seriously consider hating you if you weren't making Diablo III and Starcraft II.

On PvP servers you can't.  On PvE servers you can have any combination of Horde and Alliance characters.

Emotional responses aside I think this is a good feature addition for WoW players. If a realm is lopsided they could add incentives (or not charge money) to tranfer to the minority faction. This is a good thing.

I still won't ever play another MMO again, Blizz can dangle that carrot on a stick somewhere else. 'Nuff said.

This is actually pretty crazy. I assume this will involve a race change as well (obviously) so could this possibly mean race changes with your current faction.

I've been trying to quit WoW on and off for years.  I just started playing again, and now this...

When will it end?  Blizzard is a thief of my $15.
