Finally, A Dating Site For Us?

UK-based publisher launches dating site aimed at game players.

Future Publishing has a little something for everyone. Want to get your highbrow British game writing on? You should probably spring for a subscription to Edge. Want all the top MMO stories, as voted on by users? There's Massive Blips. But what if you're tired of reading all of Future's publications and websites by yourself? Well, they've got your back there, too, as they've gone ahead and launched a dating site specifically targeting people who play video games.

The site's called Game 4-A-Date, and it's set up to help you "find that someone special who shares a zeal for games." That's almost totally ridiculous for a number of reasons, the chief one being that females who openly play games are probably already inundated by hundreds of ham-fisted requests for dates, friendship, and/or sex from a bunch of guys who never bothered to learn the right set of social skills. I can't imagine a dating site focused on people who play games will help those poor girls weed out the crazies unless the girls are simply after the low-hanging fruit of guys who think it's "so hot" that they play games. But those girls wouldn't need to go pay for a dating site. They should just go register a MySpace account like everyone else. Either way, this raises my annoying and self-righteous "indignant disgust when people who play games are lumped together unfavorably" ire.

This actually looks more like a partnership or some other sort of weird affiliate deal than a full-on Future site launch. Clicking beyond the "Game 4-A-Date" homepage takes you to a page hosted on WhiteLabelDating.com, which boasts that it "provides the dating software, membership database, payment processing, customer support, hosting infrastructure, tax processing and much more. You provide your brand, website design and marketing and we do the rest."

Hey, that means we could all just go start our own dating sites! They say they can set one up in minutes! Here, I'll post my own dating site profile here so we can all get inspired. Let's go find some LOVE, people.

Fucking Future. Fuck them. And fuck Edge. Pretentious bullcrap. Now they try and lump us all together as being unable to socialise?

As almost-correct as they are, this still makes me RAEG!

To quote the excellent Giant Bomb Theme Song by Evan Brass "I would date them If I was a girl!"

I'm not falling for that. That's obviously a fake personal ad. Everyone knows that the real online singles are all models. Some are so desperate for boyfriends that they have to post their photo in lots of places under different names.

What a shame. Poor girls.
