First Footage of Prince of Persia Movie

As Giant Bomb's resident sufferer of video game movies, I feel compelled to bring this to your attention.

Ridiculous action movie mogul Jerry Bruckheimer showed up on ABC recently to chat briefly about his upcoming Prince of Persia movie and show off a little footage of the production. The setup for the movie sounds familiar enough, with Jake Gyllenhaal as a street urchin that gets adopted by the king and who falls in love with a hot princess. Check out this clip to see for yourself, and be sure to make note of the guy wearing the Wolverine claws during rehearsal. Crossover potential confirmed!?!

I don't immediately recoil from J-Bruck's involvement in a movie project the way that some folks do, though I'll admit that there's something kind of creepy and predatory about the way he talks about Gyllenhaal's physique and acting talent. It's not really enough footage to get excited about, but it seems like they're going in the right direction. It's looking like a much grander production than any of the video game movies I've seen, and the brief glimpses of swordplay provided look pretty reminiscent of Sands of Time. I'm still a little iffy on Gyllenhaal as the Prince of Persia, and I'll be particularly interested to see how they decide to use the whole Back-in-Time Potion conceit. I can already envision the super-slo-mo spinning camera shots, like it's The Matrix only covered in dirt.
