Plants Vs. Zombies Jackson Replacement Zombie Looks Sharp, Disco-y

Not bad. Not bad at all.

At some point, all new purchasers of Plants vs. Zombies won't remember the Dancing Zombie like we do. They'll know it as a disco-themed character, plucked straight out of a period satire. Equipped with gaudy, pink-tinted goggles the size of beer bottle bottoms, bulbous jewelry, fish-tank platform shoes, and a suit that my father would have died for, this replacement zombie does, at least, make for quite the first impression.

PC Gamer recently got hold of the first big shot of the monster (below), and even coaxed a comment from the zombie, who as described by game creator PopCap Games, is starting to think of itself as a "second class citizen."

“Dear Alive Peeples, I am pleazed too join the big brainz at PopCap and can’t wait to meat you all. And yes, I du my own heir," the disco zombie said in a statement.

The disco zombie is the replacement for the Michael Jackson "Thriller" zombie, which debuted in the game before the musician died. Jackson's estate has since taken issue with the look of the moon-walking zombie, and PopCap Games was forced to make a "business decision" and remove the character from even current versions of the game.

The iPhone version of the game was the first to feature the disco zombie. Although I can't confirm it, I'm assuming that the Game of the Year Edition of the game, which is now available on PopCap Games official website (and free for those who bought previous versions from the same place), won't have the Jackson zombie. The good news is that you'll be able to make your own with the game's character creator, provided that you go into the monumental project with just a wee bit of imagination.

I don't think it's very fair that they had to remove it..
OroJacksonon July 30, 2010 at 12:37 p.m.
I liked the M.J. zombie better :(
Ohveeon July 30, 2010 at 12:38 p.m.
It really doesn't affect anything. It's definitely a suitable replacement.
fwyloon July 30, 2010 at 12:39 p.m.
Fair enough. Why is there a fish in his shoe?  Is his shoe made of ice?
Scooperon July 30, 2010 at 12:40 p.m.
=The fish should of been a zombie too.

@fwylo:  Rent I'm Gonna Git You Sucka.
JP_Russellon July 30, 2010 at 12:41 p.m.

That's not bad.  Not bad at all.

But it's no zombie MJ.  Still keeping my automatic updates for PvZ on Steam turned off.

EDIT - Just now noticed the tagline for the article says "Not bad.  Not bad at all."  I'm not sure if it's just a freak coincidence that I wrote the same thing, or Brad saw my statement and concurred enough to make it the tagline, or what.  :P

Obviously you're not 70's savvy.

Nothing lost, still serves it's purpose the same.

Because, I think he's parodying Disco Stu, from the Simpsons.
fwyloon July 30, 2010 at 12:46 p.m.
@TwoLines: Really? They had aquarium shoes? That's amazing.
Overwatchon July 30, 2010 at 12:53 p.m.
Really dig the shoes.
TwoLineson July 30, 2010 at 12:53 p.m.

@CandleJakk:  More like it's parodying a disco persona in general, those shoes exist IRL. That's where the Simpsons got it, lol.

Wonder what's going to replace it when Matt Groening sues them.
JessicaBooon July 30, 2010 at 1:15 p.m.
