The Fallout 3 DLC Party Just Don't Stop

Bethesda's got two more downloadable content packs for its nuclear RPG, plus some good news for PS3 owners.

With less than two weeks to go until E3, Bethesda went ahead and confirmed some recent rumors about more Fallout 3 DLC. Confirmed: there's more Fallout 3 DLC! Here's their pitch on the two new add-ons.

  • Point Lookout - Explore a massive new swampland area filled with new quests and content.
  • Mothership Zeta - The aliens have returned, and they’re pissed. Experience an alien abduction first hand and find out if you’re tough enough to survive.

We're looking at late June and late July respectively for these updates on Xbox Live and Games For Windows Live, both priced at 800 points ($10).

But wait, there's more! PlayStation 3 owners already got their Fallout 3 trophies via a patch, and now they can finally look forward to all this DLC rolling their way as well. The first pack, Operation Anchorage, will hit the PlayStation Network in late June, with The Pitt and Broken Steel rolling out four to six weeks apart after that. Point Lookout and Mothership Zeta will then follow sometime after the first trio is out.

This seems like great news to me overall. On the one hand, you could spend over $100 playing everything Fallout 3 when all is said and done. But really, there's no better place to nestle new quest content than the sprawling framework of a massive Bethesda RPG, and this piecemeal expansion format is a pretty neat way to turn an already great retail game into an ongoing episodic experience.

Also, it will ensure that Vinny can keep bringing up Fallout 3 on the Bombcast until the end of time.

Lastly, if you haven't played Fallout 3 at all yet (like me--crap), Bethesda closes with the news that a "Game of the Year" edition will be hitting all platforms in October at standard retail pricing ($60 on consoles, $50 on PC) that contains the base game and all five of these packs. That's so much content, it almost feels like this year's version of The Orange Box.

Bout time. Im the biggest Fallout 3 fan so the more the merrier. Broken Steel really does make it so much better

Oh, wow! It's actually coming to the PSN!
TekZeroon May 19, 2009 at 10:09 a.m.
Wow, I'm actually a little intimidated by all this, considering I was going to get the first 3 DLC's together for my third playthrough.  Although that alien dlc seems a little wierd.

On a side note, I can't wait to see how Obisidian is making Fallout: New Vegas.  If it's anything like what they did to Kotor and Neverwinter Nights, I'll like it better than the original.

OMG!!! YES!!! My prayers are answered!  Every DLC pack has made me go back through the whole game again.

Aliens! I'm in.

I am still playing Fallout 3 and have not reached level 20 yet, but I am getting close and getting ready to download Broken Steel. Sounds like there will be plenty more to download after that. Wow.

Actually the Alien DLC does fit in. If youve wandered around the north of the map im sure you would of found the UFO dead alien and the ALIEN BLASTER!!!

OMG. One of the most awesome games ever keeps exapnding. Have spent 100 hours+ on this game and more will come <3

Let's just hope that these DLC-packs will be a bit longer than the previous ones - and that there will be more levels and perks :)

E3 would have been awesomer if they saved this news. now my E3 is that much less awesome :(

Great news for PS3 owners.  I'll probably hold off and grab the GOTY edition.

Could Fallout 3 be the first 2000 achievement point game?!?
MatsSundinon May 19, 2009 at 10:16 a.m.
its great to hear ps3 owners are also getting the DLC content. I have fallout 3 on the xbox 360 and I haven't bought any of these DLC packs yet, although broken steel seems interesting
Matt_on May 19, 2009 at 10:16 a.m.

Okay, show me an employed person that has time to play all this content and manage to keep up with other games as well.

I need to buy Fallout 3. I'll wait until the GOTY version hits the market. I also have to decide whether to buy it for PS3 or 360.

No! lol.... But good try. It already has 3 DLC packs & it's only @ 1340/1340. 2 new DLC packs won't add 660 points.
Beomooseon May 19, 2009 at 10:18 a.m.
That $50 GOTY PC edition is damn sexy. I hope it's available on Steam.
Mercanison May 19, 2009 at 10:20 a.m.
There's retail versions of the first four DLC, but what about Mothership Zeta?
Lukeweizeron May 19, 2009 at 10:20 a.m.
Hooray! I have to spend another 20 dollars on over-priced, under-achieving, short DLC so I can actually level up to 30. I love this generation of gaming.
skrutopon May 19, 2009 at 10:22 a.m.
According to Joystiq, there's a retail disk coming out for Operation: Anchorage and The Pitt as well.  I'm not sure what the price will be, but I suspect it'll be $20 when it comes out.
