XSEED Games has announced that THE WIZARD OF OZ: Beyond the Yellow Brick Road, is scheduled for release in the US this Autumn.

Released as RIZ-ZOAWD by D3Publisher in Japan, THE WIZARD OF OZ: Beyond the Yellow Brick Road is an RPG inspired by the beloved tale of Dorothy and her magical journey through the Land of Oz. The game shows a unique perspective on what happened after reaching the end of the Yellow Brick Road.

"XSEED is extremely happy to be taking part in bringing this beloved tale to life in an interactive format. Everyone knows the story of how Dorothy arrived in Oz, but this is a unique interpretation on what happened afterwards."

    - Jun Iwasaki, President of XSEED Games

Not likely given this is a RPG made by a different developer...The game does look great graphically though. I wonder what it scored in Famitsu [-will check]

I never knew there was a Super Nintendo platformer based on the fairy tale : / I wonder how many videogames are based on fairy tales. Somebody should create a page.

    EDIT: (Japanese name)

    RIZ-ZOAWD DS  - 7/8/7/6  (28/40)
