    Overview

In direct opposition of falling damage, many games will intentionally forego having players take damage when falling long distances. This can be explained a number of ways in-game, such as via a piece of equipment constantly worn by the player character (such as Chell's long fall boots in Portal), or as an optional item players can equip (such as the golden horseshoe in Terraria.) Alternatively, a game may offer no explanation for the phenomenon, instead simply having the mechanic be present.
