Is there one monitor that is universally recommended lately? I really do need to upgrade my monitor, and there may be some sort of sale considering it's Cyber Monday and all.

@barrock: thats like asking if there is a universially reccomended car, what do you need, something fast? something with great milage? a semi truck?

Basically there are two big camps, screens with high refresh-rate.
    And screens with better color-reproduction.
    can't have both, pretty much.

Color reproduction is probably ideal for games if I'm not playing games that are highly dependent on my reflexes right?

I bought one of these a few weeks ago for $150, I just bought another one today for $130 to go dual monitor. Highly recommended, colors look amazing compared to my old 20" dell from 2009. Super thin as well. Don't think you'll get one better for the price.

ASUS VG248QE 144Hz is a good choice. Usually goes for a around 250 for us Canadians but I'm sure you can find it for cheaper in the US if that's where you are located

I bought one of the 27" 2560x1440 Korean monitors off of eBay last year and it's mostly fantastic. At some point I'd like to pick up another and they are down around $300 now.
