Peter Jackson has directed the films Brain Dead or also know as Dead Alive in the United States, Heavenly Creatures, The Valley (Short Film), Bad Taste. Crossing The Line (Short Film), King Kong, The Lovely Bones, Forgotten Silver (Documentary), The Frighteners, Meet The Feebles, Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring, Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers, and Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King.
Jackson's most renowned work is The Lord of the Rings trilogy. All three films were critically acclaimed and are among the highest grossing films of all time. The trilogy as a whole received 17 Oscars out of a total 30 nominations. Jackson himself received the Academy Award for Best Directing and Best Adapted Screenplay, both for The Return of the King. The Return of the King also won Best Picture, making it the first fantasy film in history to receive the award.
Jackson's game studio, Wingnut Interactive, formed from a partnership with Microsoft Game Studios. The company is based in Wellington, New Zealand, and was created to make what Jackson has referred to as "filmic games". Their first project was to be an Xbox 360 game based in the Halo universe, tentatively titled Halo: Chronicles, but as of July 2009 the game had been officially put "on hold" by Microsoft. Despite this, the studio is still active, and is said to be working on an original intellectual property. Jackson was also on board to executive produce a film adaptation of Halo, originally set for release in 2008, but after numerous production stoppages the project was considered dead as of late 2007.
He is currently working on a two-part adaption of J.R.R. Tolkien's novel, The Hobbit, and is already signed on as producer and co-writer. After the previous director Guillermo Del Toro officially withdrew due to delays and schedule conflicts, Jackson was said to be in negotiations with Warner Brothers to direct both films himself.
