Dunno what the policy on posting stuff like this is, but apparently the Vita cracks are out. I'm not going to post a link to where you can download it (5 seconds in Google can do that for you), but here's what the crack entails:

    "Changelog: Vita Tools v1.06

    • Added ungpkg to allow to unpack game packages.
    • Fixed tools.c to allow to search ps vita keys in the right folder.
    • Removed pkg_reader. useless

    About: Vita Keys

    • These files contain the keys necessary for encrypting/decrypting/signing files for the PS Vita.
    • They are compatible with deroad's vitatools.
    • Copy these files to your ~/.vita/ or %userprofile%\vitakeys directory.
    • Initial files were created by Deroad."

Well, there you go. Cue Sony releasing endless firmware updates to stop those things. Hopefully this won't kill the VITA.

Goddammit. I thought maybe they would've made it a bit tougher to crack this time around.

Trying to figure out what exactly this is... It seems just a evolution of the PSP emulator hack that's been out for a while - the encryption keys mentioned seem to still be PSP related, so its quite possible this only applies to PSP game packages.

Although if it leads to this, then maybe less Boo.

Or just give me a Vita emulator. I pay for my software, but choose my hardware carefully, and I was never persuaded to bite on the Vita hardware.

Well pretty much any PSX and PSP games. Hope they can figure out PS2 emulation so I can rip the games that I own onto it!

It hasn't even been out a year yet, the 3DS was way worse.

The system is actually fairly nice; PSP games look/play great on it. The few games I've bothered to pick up for the native system (mostly Lumines) are also pretty good.

The only thing it's missing is software. That said, I'm not sure I like the likely ramifications of this; even if I do love me some GBA games.
