    Too Human Was Too Hyped
I think this is one of those games where you get all this hype for years, a few excellent screenshots at the begining of the console's lifespan which become pretty standard midway through the console's lifespan when the game actually releases. This is exactly what happened to Zelda: Twilight Princess and it is a curse that is caused by eager developers who can't wait to show off what they've been busy on for two weeks. I'm sure the game is great but as Silicon Knight's next big masterpiece it just couldn't deliver on Eternal Darkness' legacy.

Also, there's a lot of monster boob in Castlevania: SotN, and other Castlevania games.

Hey I'm getting like 70 bucks soon!

Time to save up for that 360...heh heh yeah right that's not going to happen. I've decided what I am getting though. I'm going to take a coupon and get a copy of Spore for $45 at Target since I got a $5 off coupon with my creature creator. But I tell you I did something today that I am both proud and excited to have done:

I GOT StarCraft TO RUN WITHOUT A CD!

The newest patch is supposed to do this but what it doesn't tell you is that you have to copy the contents of the CDs onto your hard drives and rename the INSTALL.exe files. I'm gonna do the same thing with Warcraft III a little later.

Still stuck in Final Fantasy IV at the battle between those dolls and then the one right after it with Golbez. If the Dragon Quest IV port is anywhere as good as the one for Final Fantasy IV then I will go and pre-order it! Also with Halloween coming up in just two months I was thinking of getting into the spirit early with Eternal Darkness. I don't know about that thouigh cause I really need to get some extra cash ready for when my birthday comes around and I can afford a 360. Talk to you guys later.

Allright my day has both sucked and been awesome at the same time. First thing that happened was I woke up at 7 and was for some unknown reason in a great amount of pain. I couldn't explain it but I'll let you use your imagination on where I was in pain...lemme just say...not a pleasant way to wake up. So I get back to sleep wake up a few hours later and I go to eat  breakfast and my favorite cereal is in the cupboard! Woohoo! Cocoa Pebbles FTW! And some real milk too! Normally we only have that skim crap but today we had 2% milk which tastes less like water and more like awesome. That's right awesome is a taste. Then I go to put my contacts in. I get the right one in and I go to the left one. As it turns out it ripped while it was ON MY EYE! Never has my eye been in so much pain and the eye doctor isn't open until monday so it's gonna be a while before I get new ones. Then I found some orange soda. So that made me feel better about the eye thing. I did have some glasses but I actually see better with one contact than with those glasses so I have a little trouble with my left side now but at least I can see. Then I get a phone call saying that this year for school I got moved out of the world's greatest homeroom to the one headed by my 10th grade history teacher whom I am not fond of in the least. Plus I know a few of the kids there and I'm not looking forward to it...at least two of my friends got moved there with me so I have someone to talk to. So as it stands karma has negatively affected me three times and positively twice. I would say that since I don't have to baysit today that there's another positive thing but I'll get payed less now so it balances itself out. Well karma, I'm saving for an Xbox 360 (sorta) and I'm waiting for that other positive thing.

Random YouTube video: I was reading a list of fake achievements for Team Fortress 2 and one made a reference to this video called FYI I Am A Spy which is probably one of the greatest things I've seen in a while:

Suda51 is making a new game! With Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami! Woohoo! Now the question remains:

What Platform To Get Suda's/Mikami's New Game On?

Well we have plenty of time to decide as we know nothing about it except it is a survival horror game on Wii, PC, Xbox 360, and PS3. It's kinda of weird that they would choose EA to partner with since many Japanese/American game relationships don't last too long but they all seem excited over it. And then Epic is working with EA to do something cool which I can't wait to see. You know EA used to be this big faceless organization that just wanted to make a profit no matter how bad their games were but thanks to Activision becoming that soon enough they've become more open and creative. Look at Boom Blox for example. Activision hasn't released anything that creative in awhile. Makes me want to buy Boom Blox...except the price tag just turns me away. I can't see paying a full $50 for that game and I doubt 360 and PS3 owners will want to throw an extra $10 on top of that if they go and port it. What else...

I'm still playing Final Fantasy IV, just got to the underworld and I seem to have some trouble facing Golbez. I can't wait to crush his skull...

I can't wait for Tuesday, which is odd for me as I usually hate Tuesdays (never anything interesting,) but they're debuting the new Heavy Update for Team Fortress 2! They showed off the new melee weapon
The new community map: cp_steel
The new map Badwater Basin and one unlucky engineer
already along with a new community map (cp_steel I played the original version and it's great) and the new payload map Badwater Basin which is like the Goldrush map from the Medic update except it's only one area and it's much more open. So guess what I'll be playing on Tuesday!

So who here like Red vs Blue? Anyone? Anyone at all? Well I've been keeping up with them and their new series is great. They've done what I thought was impossible and took a great story with interesting characters and it's hilarious. I was a little skeptical for the first few episodes but they're really getting a lot of comedy into every episode now. So my "random" video for today is the latest PSA (public service announcement) from Red vs Blue. Be sure to watch the whole thing.

Halo 2 On Vista Makes The Mistake Of Being Just A Port

Now don't get me wrong I do like this game. It plays well but the problem is it plays exactly like the Xbox version. This is by far the better version of Halo 2. Custom maps, server browsing, and better graphics put it ahead of it's console twin.

First the graphics. On a basic machine running Vista you will not notice much difference from the Xbox version although they are passable but cannot compete with newer games like Half Life 2, Team Fortress 2, Call of Duty 4, or Crysis. The loading of enemies in the distance is delayed depending on what part of the game you're in but this never happens during the multiplayer.

The single player starts out promising enough. The story takes place right after Halo: Combat Evolved where Master Chief just blew up the Covenant (an alien cult of creatures) super weapon, the Halo, and he is greeted by his commanding officer on the Cairo space station. As the story continues you learn of the Covenant Elite (one of two Covenant factions the other being the Brutes) who is called upon by the hierarchs to become the Arbiter. This is basically a death sentence since Arbiters have extremely short lifespans. As you progress through the game as the Arbiter you encounter the Flood, another alien species who are clearly based off of the headcrabs and zombies from the Half Life series. The story ends on a cliff hanger with Master Chief about to crash back down to Earth on a Forerunner (an ancient race no longer in existence) Ship and proclaiming he's going to finish the fight. The ending will make you angry. This is absolute. YOU WILL BE MAD AT THE GAME. Just be glad you can see the ending right away and not have to wait three years for it like the poor fools on the Xbox.

The soundtrack is one of the most amazing things about this game. The sound effects are dead on save for when the cutscenes stagger and the dialog stacks on top of each other. But while the music is well composed it is sometimes poorly placed. High combat situations will find either a high beat song that matches the epic scale of the battle or it will be a relaxing song that will calm you down as hordes of Covenant massacre you.

The gameplay has always been the biggest problem for Halo. While it's far from broken, the sensitivity is made for the Xbox 360 controller which can be used easily since this is a Games for Windows title. Also this is one of the few GfW titles to give achievements which are considerably easy as compared to Gears of War. So if you turn up the sensitivity you should be fine.

The multiplayer is where this game shines. The unfortunate part is that not a lot of games play by regular rules. Most games are modded to use either only swords or only sniper rifles and beam rifles (the Covenant sniper rifle.) So if sniping is not your game you won't be playing this that much. But there are several other game modes that usually don't have modded rules such as Capture the Flag and Assault, in which you transport a bomb to the enemy base.

So basically it's a good multiplayer FPS with a nice if annoying story. This is still a three year old game. And it was designed for the console market so you know what you're getting in to. There is an included map editor if thats your type of thing but the 23 included maps should be enough to hold your interest during the 1 month LIVE Gold trial.

The 360 Title Brings All The Blood To The PC

Gears of War was released in 2006 for the Xbox 360 and became an instant hit with gamers and critics and can be considered the Xbox equivalent to resident Evil 4 for GameCube, and PS2. Gears starts out with Marcus Fenix in his prison cell, imprisoned for disobeying orders and attempting to save his dad's life. He failed and was sentenced to forty years, but the sentence was cut short as the prison was emptied and the inmates were all recruited to join the C.O.G. army to fight against the Locust Horde, a large army of mole like creatures without the fur and with sharp pointy teeth. The Locust have one goal in mind: the complete anhilation of human life on the planet Sera. The game goes from the prison scenery to several other areas including and underground mining facility, a refugee campsite flooded with Kryll, a bat like ravenous bird that will kill you, fast.

The gameplay in Gears isn't anything special or groundbreaking but it uses a duck and cover system used by going against any flat surface and tapping the space bar. Melee attacks are preformed by either the B of F keys (and if you're smart you'll change it to the left Shift key of some other more comfortable position.) Most weapons have a basic whack your opponent with the side of your gun melee attack, but the lancer assault rifle has a chainsaw bayonet which provides an instant kill. Grenades also have a special melee ability in that they stick to the enemy that is in your sights. The final special attack is the blade on the torque bow but it's the least interesting of the trio.

The game consists of five acts with numerous chapters in each. Roughly 80% of these chapters are the same as the 360 version but the beginning of act five starts off the new chapters which more than doubles the length of the final act which normally could of been completed within an hour. The new chapters are well made and provide closure to the Brumak scene at the end of act four but are by no mean a reason to trade your 360 version in and pick up the PC version. The Brumak boss battle is disappointingly easy for a game with such a high difficulty level, but it is fun to play and shows promise for a large scale conflict with two or three Brumaks in the sequel.

In addition to the new chapters there is also two new multiplayer maps and a new game mode, if you can find anyone to play it with. Seriously, the multiplayer is a whole lot of fun in this game, it's just there aren't enough people playing at once to really get a good game going. And as for the online co-op, forget about it. Very rarely will you find one, thats ONE, co-op game that you can join to try and get the Dom themed achievements.

Dell recently scrapped the dimension line of PCs and have replaced them with the Inspiron series which are the bare basics for Windows Vista PCs. Running on one you can get near Xbox 360 quality gameplay with minor lag (mostly minor) and some jaggies here and there if you just play with it for a while. Be forewarned though, integrated graphics are not your friend. For those who mock those like me with fairly weak PCs, Gears will look beautiful. There are more details in this version than the 360 version although there is still some very minor lag even with the greatest of PCs.

The soundtrack is very atmospheric and moody which works well in its favor. The sound effects are usually dead on with some stuttering during the cut scenes, something Half Life 2 player may know a little bit about.

To do anything in this game requires a Games for Windows LIVE account which is the same service as Xbox LIVE. In fact the only difference between the Windows LIVE service and the Xbox LIVE service is that PC gamers get the benefit of typing on a keyboard in full complete sentences while our console inferiors are stuck with an on screen keyboard. The LIVE multiplayer components require a Gold account, a month of which is free after registering your code online, and achievements for multiplayer (save for the co-op ones) cannot be earned without Gold.

Achievements in this game are not hard to get for the single player experience but the multiplayer achievements require a tedious amount of hours to unlock all of them. The most notable is a required 10,000 kill on a ranked match which requires LIVE Gold. The achievements are separate from the 360 version so buying both will earn you 2 sets of achievements.

All of the controls of the 360 version are available with the use of a 360 controller. All in all the keyboard and mouse add very little to the experience but at the same time take nothing away. This is a very solid port with several glitches, very few of which are game ruining, but can be overcome on nearly all occasions. One moment in my history stands out as I went to walk forward to hug a wall when I was lifted three feet above the ground unable to be moved from my position. On a humorous occasion I was hurled 15 feet directly to the right which worked out as I was headed that way anyways.

Basically it comes down to this: While the LIVE service is a drag for PC gamers it is a good way to keep in touch with friends. If you have any intention of buying a 360 later on this game will make you feel better about buying a years worth of the LIVE service for your console with only one or two games on it. There is also a map editor with all the tool Epic used to create the game, but you have to search the installation process to install it and even then it might not install. Despite the glitches and the occasional lag this is a solid purchase that any PC gamer should be glad to have in their collection.
