Goodbye to a UFC Legend

I  was able to see what was most likely the last fight in Chuck "The Iceman" Liddell's spectacular UFC career.  Chuck is probably the most recognizable MMA fighter in the world today, but unfortunately, was unceremoniously knocked out by Rich Franklin last Saturday at UFC 115.  Liddell looked in shape and fought well in the first round.  After rocking Franklin, Liddell charged to finish him, but was caught by an on-point counter right hand and dropped immediately.  Chuck historically has had a great chin, but that chin is all but gone now.

Chuck is one of the fighters that really got me into watching MMA and UFC specifically, but I think it is time for him to hang it up.  He's had memorable KO's of a laundry list of UFC stars, including Randy Couture and Tito Ortiz, and was always fun to watch fight.  Even though I wanted to see The Iceman turn Tito's face into hamburger one more time, I hope that now he can become an ambassador to the sport and bow out gracefully.

Chuck - there's no need to hang your head in shame.  You are, and always were, the man.

Shame on me for missing the fight. I had a feeling he was too past his prime to take on Franklin.

I kinda thought this was going to happen, which is why I wanted his last fight to be against tito, since it would be more fair to pit up two guys past their prime for a fight that is sure to bring in money. Maybe he should fight mark coleman.

so are you just saying he is done or is he actually done? it sucks for him for that to happen. he was a great fighter and sometimes things have to change.

@B20Sandman:  Anyone can get hit by a lucky punch.  For a guy to break another guys arm in the 1st round that shows me that man still has some fight in him.

If the fight is in him I see no reason to leave.  I think Dana White just doesn't want to pay him main event money since he hasn't been winning.

@SumDeus:
I didn't think he was done and like I said, he looked good up until the KO.  Chin isn't what it once was...

I soooo wanted Chuck to mash Tito's face in.  Maybe it'll still happen, but from what Dana says, it won't.
