Goodbye, Ryan! Thanks for Everything!

I'm still really struggling to come to terms with this whole thing.

In the past five years, I've really come to count on GB as a point of stability in my life. There's always been something immensely comforting to me knowing that Ryan, the rest of the crew, and this amazing community were always just a click away regardless of what I had going on.

I know that a lot of people out there probably do raise an eyebrow when they see someone with a personal connection to a website and the community and personalities that inhabit it, but that's just because they don't have the same set of experiences that we do. I'll be honest with you guys, I've always struggled a bit to fit in socially (I'm sure I'm not the only one here that feels that way). I wouldn't call myself socially awkward exactly. I'm capable of being cordial and carrying on casual conversation, but it's extremely rare that I'm able to connect with people on a meaningful level and form rewarding long term relationships. However, connecting with GB's staff and community has always felt pretty natural to me.

We might be on opposites sides of a screen, but it's always felt like we're all kindred spirits here. I never met Ryan in person, and I lament that now I never will, but it already felt like we were buds. That was really the magic of Ryan, and it's a testament to just how special this little experiment called Giant Bomb really is. GB isn't just yet another assembly line for trailers, rumors, and reviews. It's a platform for real people to put their life, passion, and assorted eccentricities on display for all to see, and Ryan thrived in that environment. Not because he was good at his job (even though he was pretty damn good at it), but simply because he was an amazing human being with the sort of larger than life personality that can fill a room. His booming laughter will forever echo in our hearts and minds, and his stories and life will live on in GB lore.

Thanks for everything, Ryan! And because I know you'd probably groan if you ever saw us being so serious about this whole thing, here's this:

That was an awesome post, Chaser. Its interesting to know that we can confirm that some of us are a little introverted here, yet can connect over something obviously funny, yet oblivious to everyone else.

Thanks for being a great moderator, btw. I remember you totally kept us in line during the redesign transition. Anyway, good memorial.

Alright, I had to go back and add in a bootleg Fast 5 clip and a Kreayshawn video. Now, I guess I can call this little piece of catharsis complete.

@blu3v3nom07: Thanks.

So long Ryan, and Thanks for all the fish!

Good post! It's been so... uplifting to see the community be so vocal and positive about this.

Totally agree with you, not having a very social life at the moment, the connection to these guys become very strong because of the time you spend listening to them.

Well said. As a person with no friends who are in to the gaming culture, Giant Bomb has become the one place where I can go and let my nerd flag fly. I listen to theses guys every day as I sit in front of a saw or mill at work for hours on end. It has been really tough dealing with this because no one in my life understands the connection to the crew, so for them I think it's hard to understand how I could feel so down about a person I've never met. I'd like to think that Ryan is watching all this right now, with the biggest smile his bearded face can muster. Take care big guy. You'll be missed but never forgotten...

I extra agree with this statement: "I know that a lot of people out there probably do raise an eyebrow when they see someone with a personal connection to a website and the community and personalities that inhabit it..."

Some look at me funny when I say I come to this site mostly for the personalities and the connection I feel for the guys.

Really good post Chaser.

Good post. Gotta agree with all this. I've been numb to the reality of all this, outside of the occasional breakdown. I'm realizing it's affected me more than I thought, as I sit here and realize I haven't brushed my teeth or eaten pretty much anything in two days.

On a lighter note, I'm noticing your banner image. Comedy Bang Bang! Yeah!

I think many of us, like you, have a personal relationship with this website. Outside people don't understand but anyone that is part of this comunity does. It's not the subject that this site is about or really its content, but it is the people who are behind of it the real reason why we love Giantbomb so much and why many of us are suffering like we are.
