Born into the royal family of Conkram in Karisto Kingdom, the largest of three supercontinents in the world of Legaia (the other two being Drake Kingdom and Sebucus Islands). Cort's intelligence and charisma gained him the following of Conkram's nobility and the love of the High Priestess Zora, a woman older than him. His following was so great that it would seem that he was considered superior to the King and Queen by the other nobility. Originally good, Prince Cort found his way to evil after trying to end a 10 year war between Conkram and Sol. He was contacted by the evil Ra-Seru Rogue (the equivalent of Satan in Christian religion) and told how to create a Mist Generator, a machine that would enhance Conkram's Seru and ensure victory against Sol. However, Rogue tricked Cort and the Mist Generator caused the Seru to go berserk and attack all humans in the area. Three heroes wearing Ra-Seru, a special seru impervious to the mist, destroyed the mist generator by defeating Rogue in Rogue's Tower, thus saving the town. However, Prince Cort equipped himself with a Ra-Seru that came out of Rogue's Tower, thus turning his ambitions into evil. After giving his followers Sim-Seru of their own (Seru artificially created by humans) he secretly worked with them to build a gigantic Mist Generator in the Absolute Fortress, spewing the mist into the rest of Karisto Kingdom. The Mist Generator was powered by Ra-Seru eggs taken from Genesis Trees, ironically he met his end at the hands of Ra-Seru. His followers traveled across the world of Legaia into Sebucus Islands and Drake Kingdom and built Mist Generators to cover the rest of the world, killing off most of the humans and turning others into Seru Monsters (crazed seru that have attached themselves to humans). Because of the thick mist coming from the Absolute Fortress, a Sim-Seru in Conkram that resembled a clam enveloped the entire city, fusing the humans that survived with the innards of the Sim-Seru - this included Prince Cort's parents. With the technology to create new Seru from the city of Ratayu in Sebucus, Prince Cort ensured the creation of the evil Sim-Seru known as Juggernaut, larger than the largest mountains, able to instantly teleport anywhere, and cabable of controlling large amounts of destructive energy, it was created by an underground machine that sucked the life force out of virgin women that were to become "brides of the seru". Prince Cort eventually was defeated by the three Ra-Seru heroes in his fortress after they killed all of his followers, but upon falling hundreds of feet from the top of the Absolute Fortress into the lake of mist where Juggernaut slept, he fused with the Juggernaut and later absorbed the home town of one of the Ra-Seru wearers, thereby turning Rim Elm into a Seru town like Conkram (which was destroyed along with Cort's parents when the Sim-Seru enveloping Conkram died at the destruction of the Absolute Fortress's Mist Generator). Upon entering the mouth of the fused Juggernaut, the Ra-Seru heroes made their way to the heart where a fused Prince Cort with Juggernaut lay waiting. The fused JuggerCort battled the Ra-Seru heroes but was defeated by the trios combined power, which by that time was greater than Tieg's, the God of Legaia. After Cort's defeat, the Ra-Seru exploded due to the Great Genesis Tree in the Seru-Kai dying (due to a turned-evil Biron Monk named Songi equipped with a Ra-Sim-Seru given to him by Prince Cort, although he was defeated in the Seru-Kai in the third battle with the Ra-Seru heroes he sucked too much energy out of the Great Genesis Tree for it to be saved) and the power from the exploded Ra-Seru caused Cort to be reborn into a child, where he was then taken care of by his younger sister Noa, one of the Ra-Seru wearers. One can only wait and see if Cort will grow up good or go back to his evil ways once he comes of age again.
Seru, Ra-Seru, Sim-Seru Info
The interactions between the Seru, Ra-Seru, and Sim-Seru comprise an integral part of the plot of Legend of Legaia.
Seru were initially benevolent creatures designed by God to exist symbiotically with humans, and help them to survive. When worn by a human, they grant the wearer great powers. Depending on the type of Seru equipped, these powers can include greatly enhanced strength, control over the elements, and even the ability to fly. With the strength of Seru, humans were able to build civilization and thrive on the bounty of their combined efforts.
When a Seru comes into contact with the Mist, it acts aggressively and will attack any humans in its vicity. Furthermore, any Seru which comes into contact while already bound to a human will be able to take control of their host, effectively turning the human into a mindless monster. As long as the Mist pervades the air around them, the Seru and human cannot be separated without killing them both. Once the Mist has been removed, however, the Seru will return to its benign form, and the human will awaken unharmed. Humans freed from the influence of a controlling Seru often report that they feel as though they have awoken from a nightmare, and note that they have not aged in the time between enslavement and emancipation, an interval which can last anywhere from days to years.
Some Seru possess an elemental affinity which determines what type of attacks it will use in battle (noted by the icon displayed next to its name). This is useful in determining what abilities can be assimilated by a Ra-Seru (see below).
Ra-Seru are Seru which have chosen to align themselves with the humans against the Mist and its agents. Unlike most Seru encountered in the game, they are sentient and capable of thinking for themselves. They are born from Ra-Seru eggs found in the heart of Genesis trees, and hatch when activated by the energies of a Genesis tree. They are immune to the maddening effects of the Mist, although weakened by its presence, and apparently cannot survive prolonged exposure to high concentrations.
Each main character eventually partners him- or herself with a Ra-Seru, who lends its strength and wisdom to the human. As the storyline progresses, both the main characters and the Ra-Seru come to trust each other, and the deepening relationship between them is reflected by the visible growth of the Ra-Seru following the successful activation of a Genesis tree. Once bound, a Ra-Seru strengthens its partner's primary arm for use in combat. When a human wearing a Ra-Seru defeats a Seru in battle, the Ra-Seru can absorb the Seru's power and later use it when necessary. Consistently calling upon that Seru's power will level it up, making it more powerful and causing additional effects. In addition, the Ra-Seru are also very knowledgeable of both Seru and the Mist, and serve as indispensable authorities to the main characters who often have little understanding of either. They communicate with their partners and other Ra-Seru with what is apparently a telepathic link.
Like most Seru encountered in the game, the Ra-Seru possess their own elemental affinities. Meta, Terra, and Ozma are associated with fire, wind, and thunder, respectively; these affinities can be seen by the nature of hyper arts executed with their power. For example, Vahn is capable of learning Fire Tackle and Tornado Flame with Meta, while Noa can perform Tempest and Hurricane Kick. In addition, the Ra-Seru themselves can be summoned as magic of their elemental affinity by their human partners. This is possible when the Ra-Seru has reached its highest level of power, and is brought back to the Genesis tree which sired it.
Seru and Ra-Seru originate from Seru-Kai, the world of the Seru, and are consequently not of the human world. Sim-Seru, however, are Seru which have been artificially created by humans. Little is known about them, except that their creation involves sacrificing the life energy of humans.
Legend of Legaia Plot
God created the heavens, the earth, and the seas. After creating all things in the universe, god created humans to rule over this world. Yet, while possessing the wisdom of god, humans were physically weaker than the wild beasts, and impulsive in spirit. Many times did the humans come close to dying out forever. Concerned about the humans' future, god gave them a mighty force with which to aid them. It was the Seru. Since the dawn of human memory, known as history, humans lived together with creatures known as the Seru. The Seru lived together with humans, always obeying them, and making the humans many times stronger than before. When not worn by a human, a Seru looks much like a stone figure. However...Upon touching a human, a Seru changes form and gives that human secret abilities. With a Seru, a human can lift extremely heavy objects and even fly in the air. However, that era came to an end. Appearing from out of nowhere, the Mist covered the land, bringing to an end the world of prosperous symbiosis between humans, rebelled against them. The Seru began attacking humans at will. Seru that attached themselves to humans controlled their minds and turned them into evil beasts. As if forsaken by god, human civilization collapsed. It was the twilight of humanity. Those who escaped the Mist inhabited the desolate areas and protected each other. Now, their faint hope is their only source of inspiration.
