Fantastic pick-up and play. 0

All in all, this game is more Castlevania than not, only throw in some RPG elements, skill trees, and an interesting way of handling death. Feels sharp to play. Endless potential gameplay. Apart from punishing difficulty at times, there really isn't anything bad to say about it. The end. ...

A reverse bell curve of enjoyment. 0

The simplest way I could define my experience in Gone Home is that it has a great intro and an even better ending. Great atmosphere. If feminism offends you, there will be plenty of /cringe moments. Definitely recommend playing it if you're into adventure, story-driven games....

Compelling-ish 0

Knowing nothing about the game before I booted it up, it took only seconds of that Kyle Gabler sound for me to realize this game was made by those World of Goo guys. I've gone on record on more than one occasion to say that.. those guys are alright in my book. Little Inferno, broken down to its simplest form, is nothing more than a fireplace simulator. Here are these things, burn them! And those expecting a proper (World of Goo) game will definitely leave the charred ruins of your house disappoi...

Could you at least give me a compelling story? 4

It seems like it's a developing trend with Blizzard games. Highly polished, sophisticated gameplay and technology. Hackneyed, contrived storytelling. And I've had an internal debate with myself about whether or not I play Diablo for the story or for the gameplay. And after completing Diablo III, I'm definitely leaning toward the former. It's ironic, that as the gameplay becomes more sophisticated, the story becomes increasing mundane and simple, trading suspense and mystery and horror for explos...

What a treat. 0

I don't know what I was expecting going into this, but I was pleasantly surprised. Supergiant Games managed to develop a game with an interesting premise and story, rounded out with solid gameplay mechanics. The narration is inventive and interesting and relevant, though not without flaws. There were a few moments when I thought to myself, "what the fuck he is talking about again?" But those moments were fairly rare. And the music was fantastic. And not really what you'd expect from a fantasy ga...

Big shoes to fill. 0

In my last review, I disliked that Limbo didn't have more exposition. In the case of Metroid: Other M, it has too much. And it's not even because of the precedent set by the Prime trilogy. (Well, that's not entirely true.) It's because it just isn't very well done. The dialogue is awkward at best (and downright silly at times). Everyone says that Nintendo games would be so much better with voice acting. But if this game is any sort of example, that's just not true. It's not as simple as that. Fo...

Good, not great. 0

The irony of Limbo is that the artistic design of the game is its greatest strength and greatest weakness.I appreciate the minimalism. I appreciate the presentation. I even appreciate the mostly well-crafted puzzle design (this is coming from someone who generally dislikes puzzle games). But, once the freshness of the presentation fades, the games flaws begin to come alight. The environment is built in such a way that every step you take could be your last. This creates a kind of wonderful tensi...

Flawless. 0

I'm going to try to keep this brief. I have played and beaten every single Super Mario Bros. game multiple times. As I understand it, Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, and Super Mario 64 are largely considered to be the best of the Mario games. Having recently beaten Super Mario Galaxy 2, I am quite comfortable in saying that it is as good as any of those were in their respective times. No Mario game, apart from the original Galaxy, comes close to matching the quantity and variety of level...

Really, really disappointed. Will nobody scratch my WoW itch? 0

So the consensus is that the visuals are pretty good and the gameplay is decent. I find the visuals rather bland and unappealing and the gameplay utterly tedious. It's too similar to WoW and there is too much of a grind. The dungeons in Aion are completely stale. In fact, everything related to PVE in Aion is stale. Take your least favorite PVE dungeon in WoW, take away any clever boss mechanics and situations, take away any interesting environments or story, and cut the amount of loot dropped in...

Surprisingly Refreshing 0

When New Super Mario Bros. first came out for the DS, I remember being thoroughly disappointed. It was largely a forgettable experience. It was too easy and too thin. The disappointment carried over to the announcement NSMB Wii at E3. After an underwhelming showing on stage (and with the announcement of the next real Mario game, Super Mario Galaxy 2), I dismissed the game entirely. So months later, with three or so intimate days with the game thus far, my experience could most simply be describe...

About as good as it gets for $6. 0

Bit.Trip: Beat is an unusual game for Nintendo's downloadable service, Wiiware. I like to think of it as the result of Guitar Hero and Ikaruga somehow managing to simultaneously impregnate Pong after a long night of romance and ecstasy. The reasoning behind the first is that, simply put, the beat of the music is very much an essential part of the experience. It's comparable to Ikaruga in the sense that the 2D gameplay can get incredibly frantic, almost to the point where you don't know what you'...

Under the Radar 0

Geometry Wars Galaxies is yet another under-appreciated game for the Nintendo Wii's 3rd party. When Retro-Evolved first released, the top-down shooting experience was fun, but extremely shallow, even for the budget price of $5. The only objective on that single level was to achieve the highest score possible. Galaxies took Retro-Evolved and attempted to turn that simple demo into the full game it arguably deserved in the first place. Geometry Wars Galaxies premise revolves around just that, Gala...

Bloody Fun 0

No More Heroes is a flawed game; I'll just get that out of the way. The graphics and gameplay could be a bit more polished, the story could be a bit more fleshed out, and Santa Destroy, the brilliantly named setting of No More Heroes, could be a bit more alive and interesting. That said, the game is simply put, sick and horrible fun. After my first decapitation and mutilation, I was hooked. Suda 51 managed to tastefully use the Wii-mote waggle (and by tasteful, I mean jerking it violently in a s...

Quasi-Perfection 0

While I won't deny the fact that I'm part Nintendo fanboy, I've been quite on the fence about how I felt about the Wii and its software. Most critics of the Wii cite inferior hardware, gimmicky controls, and weak software as a reason to ignore it, and for a time, I believed the Wii couldn't produce a "next-gen" experience. With that said, Super Mario Galaxy was the first Wii game that genuinely impressed me, and I felt it appropriate to have Super Mario Galaxy to be my first review on Giantbomb....
