Speed running has been taking up a lot of my free time lately too. Not so much doing it, but watching it. Siglemic (probably one of the most famous speed runners) has recently switched from playing Super Mario 64 to Ocarina of Time. I find watching him try and learn how to speed run a new game fascinating for some reason. I used to "speed run" Super Metroid when I was younger. I got alright at it, but it was nothing compared to people who do it for real. I've thought about giving another shot, or maybe trying something new like Bastion, or something a little more convoluted like getting all gold medals in Trials Evo.
Also, that custom images in steam thing is pretty cool. Now I'm going to spend way to much time messing with that.
I'm seriously thinking of buying a copy of Van Helsing for the ps2, because I remember waking up and finishing the game in under twenty minutes before heading off to school. Probably won't, I'm sure most of the people who are interested in speed running after AGDQ wont get far in their attempts, like me.
Similar to the grid view i fell down a hole from the neogaf custom box art thread, i have yet to create my own or print any but any time i see things like that i am super tempted to print up ones for every game i own.
Americans get a decent amount of shit for enjoying pointless reality shows, and the more I learn about Japanese tv, the more I feel these wacky game shows are their equivalent. Now, I'm in no position to argue against Japanese game shows because, let's face it they're amazing works of art. BUT, don't you think Japan ever get's tired of them, the way we do of reality shows? I just realized over the course of writing this that this is the reason we have anime...
Also, I would love to see some of the original Syndicate being played on your aforementioned charity stream, if you decide on doing it!
