Joystiq died for me when they changed to their new podcast format. What a piece of shit that thing is.
But I do like the writing of the McElroy brothers, and I'm interested to see what they do next.
Agree, agree and agree.
The murder of the Joystiq podcast and XBOX fanboy podcast was vicious, sadistic and heinous. It happened after the Huffington merger, but I dont know if its connected.
I started reading Joystiq because of Ludwig Kleitzmann and was religiously committed for about 5-6 years. When they culled the podcasts in way so wrong, it will enter business school textbooks, I stopped. Found a new home with Whiskey.
Justin is a hoot, but has a big ego. Not sure he is a good fit for GB, as he lives in WV and is married to a doctor there. But Dave Hinkle is also funny AND lives in SF. GB could totally pick him up to bush up the news flow.
Chris is a bit of a dolt but a really good manager. Fuck, he kept that madhouse running at top speed for all these years with AOL breathing over his shoulder.
Ludwig is a really talented writer and amazing gamer. His reports of Japanese weekly game sales in style of noir detective fiction where just chilling. I never read anything even close to that level of literature and sophistication in "enthusiast" press.
I wish them and everyone remaining at Joystiq all the best. Hope they can keep it running and relevant.
