It's an MMO in structure, third person shooter in combat mechanics. You get quests, travel around an open world completing them and getting loot, sell loot back in town, see other players questing too, etc.
There is a "battlegrounds" type PvP mode, which is basically just like a match of any standard online shooter. There is also a team based match type you can do in the open world.
I'll watch this TED talk later out of curiosity, but I'm instantly skeptical when someone tells me something isn't important, but has it or plenty of it. Don't trust a pretty person to tell you looks don't matter, don't trust a rich person to tell you money doesn't matter. I find it hard to believe that you know it doesn't matter, when you've never had to deal with not having it.
I was curious too. It's short, about 8 minutes or so, and interesting if nothing else. Her perspective is actually quite insightful and something little girls who want to be a model should watch. She's just one of the few who won the genetic lottery and realizes that.
Yea I watched it last night. The title implied that she was going to explain why being good looking doesn't matter. She was actually saying the opposite, and also talking about how the life of a model isn't quite what it seems.

My Chrome stopped doing auto-updates for some reason. I brought up the "About Google Chrome" info popup and it downloaded and installed an update that fixed my WM site problems. (the sites would chug, freeze, and then crash the tab) I had assumed my Chrome was kept up to date with auto-updates, or I would have checked this sooner.
I was on Chrome 12.0.742.122 before, and now I'm running 12.0.782.107. WinXP SP3.
It seems nicer, but it's a shame they didn't alter the layout any. If you count the panels in just the main channels (no sub-sections), there's 72. 50 of those could be considered advertisements, and 3 of them are duplicates. (game, music, and video library appear on their respective channels, and on the My Xbox channel.)
Also, exiting an XBLA or Indie game to the Game Library still takes 30-60 seconds to load for me. I timed it today: 57 seconds.
Just updating to say that the stream seems to be working fine now. The chat still takes a while on Chrome it seems, but the stream (the important part) is working.
