No matter what they think of the upcoming tournament, the tournaments in original Dragon Ball are so much better.

Yeah, DB tournaments were more like wuxia movies where people with different martial arts styles/skills showcased their techniques and tried to figure out how to best them. It made the fights more methodical and thrilling to see who could out think the other. Toriyama tried to incorporate that feeling of tournaments back in with Super but I just don't think it's that great.

@bushlemon: Dan usually hates an idea unless that idea is tied to a property he likes. It also depends on whether he thinks the humor is forced/too tryhard for his tastes.

Guys, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE at the very least remember to equip the current best weapons for your team or buy more if you need it. Zhang was still using a LMG. Someone was using a LMG during Abby's last turn as well.

Good job, Alex. The 1 wound that Alex did get was Vinny's error. Alex was going to rightly dash behind the cargo container to trigger the overwatch but Vinny scared him off. Then Suda triggered the overwatch and got shot instead.

And yes, I agree with other folks that Alex needs to do more base building and not keep repeating the cycle of letting Dan spend all the money which forces Abby to sell stuff. Neither Dan nor Abby are buffing up the planes/hangar.

I care about stuff like this the most. It's not like I'd ever expect pro gameplay but they still don't understand a lot of the basic mechanics and still think dashing is never ok. I enjoy a series most when people generally get the mechanics and the suspense is coming from the strategical and tactical choices.

Great to see Jan and Ben talk shop about DB. Love it when people deep dive into stuff. I also kinda have more of a soft spot for DB, but sadly I remember more of DBZ. DB was creative as shit. The twists and turns of those Tenkaichis are so much more my thing.

@zorak: @afabs515: lol yes, the idea of all the universes hating on Goku is the legit funniest side effect of the whole current arc. (But man Jiren seems overpowered.)

SSG is a form only goku shown so far and is red then SSGSS is the Blue Form that both Vegeta and Goku have how Vegeta get it while skipping the SSG step is beyond me

afaik Vegeta definitely used SSG to fight Goku Black and Future Zamasu in the manga, but I guess they never showed him using it in the anime? Vegeta actually created the tactic to switch between SSG for movement and SSB for attack/defense to conserve energy. SSG was faster and uses less stamina but SSB was much stronger.

Also, this may have been a few months ago but I feel a shout out to Bulma's VA in a DB thread is warranted. RIP Hiromi Tsuru (Ukyo from Ranma, Meryl from Trigun, Naomi from MGS), you were gone too soon.

Praise to Alex and Ben for their maturity in recognizing Persona 5 as personal picks and sacrificed it so early that it surprised me and even Vinny (24:34 his reaction says a lot). I wish the same conciliation as personal picks was done with Dream Daddy, mainly because sometimes there's perhaps wisdom in knowing that a game hit one or two people a lot more than anyone else (I'd levy the same argument against Austin's Invisible, Inc. maneuver, but I at least found that argument stimulating to listen to). It was Vinny's support that swayed everyone else; it would not have had a spot otherwise. Vinny conceded his Pyre pick. Heck, Alex even conceded his OTHER high pick Yakuza 0 to let Dream Daddy on.

Much respect to Ben who tried to take a step back to really reflect on people's arguments before responding and build up games more than tear other people's down. He was able to envision these as a series of genuine conversations about the merits and flaws of a game and being honest with where it stands, rather than a series of fights to win. It was a good display of the delicate GOTY dance that relies on trust and self-awareness to take out your babies. That, I think, is the spirit of these deliberations and GOTY.

"Give. Yoko. Taro. A. Budget."

"Mmmph." (Won't even let Alex have that?)

Poor Dan. Being so taken with Dream Daddy means that they really need to play more visual novels. Tragic for it to beat both Yakuza 0 and Wolfenstein. I also think putting emphasis on player agency to affect character development is a poor move. A good cast is a good cast, whether you helped shape it or not shouldn't be given so much weight.

It's always great to see a category come together in a way that not everyone has to agree with each other, but at least they are all on the same page.
