Robert Jiang’s Top 10 Games of 2011

Junior and senior years in college, the tag of “gamer” on me started to feel like a burden. Let the first of two yearly lists filled only with products on discs begin and see you in 2 years, Bastion.

Huh? Lots of EA product here?

List items

  • Hush-tag contents in video game form. According to the save file, I’ve played 80 hours of this sucker. While it might not be that long compared to others’ hour count, that is the most hours I’ve ever poured into a game. This buggy high fantasy role playing game must have done something right.

  • Die Harder, with Batman!

Cool game. But as I look back at it in the year 2018, only one thought crosses my mind: Did the Has Fallen series starring Gerard “THIS IS SPARTA!” Butler follow the route of Arkham series? I mean the jump from White House to the entirety of London city is uncanny to the jump between an asylum to a chank of Gotham City.

  • The first Valve game in 4 years and the only one for another 7 years. As a character in the game put it “A gun that makes holes. Not bullet holes.” plus something built around it. This is one of the funniest game ever and funny is not something video games get right usually.

  • A true Aliens game compared to most of that licenced shit, a true cosmic horror game compared to Mass Effect trilogy, and a true successor to Resident Evil 4 compared to Capcom’s sequels to it. Plus, this series is likely the most polished, or least buggy EA games in those years.

  • While its “kill with skill” thing feels forced compared to Mass Effect 2 before it and Mass Effect 3, Bioshock Infinite after it(plus the forced curses), it felt fresh compared to the sad tone and self seriousness Crysis 2 and Gears of War 3 tried to enforce in their marketing. Besides, if you want your Duke Nukem itch scratched, this one is more recommendable than Duke Nukem Forever.

  • Ah, the 2 years Rockstar tried something other than open world action. At least this one captured some essence of film Noir better than Max Payne 3 with Woo movie the next year.

  • The more suitable title of this game would be Dragon Age: Champion. Despite the repetitiveness of the dungeons, got to love a high fantasy have one saving a city instead of the world.

  • This is the only Suda 51 game I have ever played. Let’s just say that his reputation of being ridiculousness should be seen to be believed.

  • Disjoint and dated as it is, I just love the installments that close their respective trilogies. Plus it felt good to blow off some steam in the Survival Mode.

  • Shoot out to the first game I manage to play through with stealth!
