1. Mass Effect 3
Bioware did it. They made the definitive series for this console generation. A worthy conclusion to an epic trilogy.
2. Borderlands 2
Bigger, better, more grating Claptrap dialogue. Loved every second.
The most fun I had with a game this year.
Beautiful and uplifting.
5. XCOM: Enemy Unknown
So, so good.
6. Dark Souls
2012's 2011 game of the year. Such highs, such soulcrushing lows.
Impossible not to love. Unless you're an android.
Great worldbuilding and clever design. My only complaint (niggling though it may be) was how they gave us all these wonderful tools for killing, yet reserved the good ending for the pacifists. And what sort of assassin goes around putting everyone to sleep?
9. Far Cry 3
One of my moments of the year was diving into a river to escape a bandit attack, only to be attacked by an alligator that *almost* ate me. And those types of moments happen every 10 minutes in this game.
10. Diablo III
When it comes to polished gameplay mechanics and presentation, no one equals Blizzard.
