The best Final Fantasy story? Probably. The best Final Fantasy game? Possibly!
That I'm genuinely torn on which of two Final Fantasy games I should choose as my game of the year is a minor miracle. Pre-Shadowbringers it probably would have gone to this, a loving modernisation of my favourite game as a 15 year old.
Feel-good game of the year.
Supergiant's best game, and well deserving of all its GOTY awards.
The love and care put into this remake is truly staggering. And if I hadn't already played this masterpiece of a game a decade ago it would have been number 1 on my list. Still, what a game.
Derek Yu likened this to Super Mario World to the original's SMB 3, and it's an apt description. I didn't get far, but what I played, I loved.
The year's biggest surprise. The best pack-in for a few generations, it sold the DualSense's innovations to every member of my household.
They kept saying it was a modern classic. I finally played it and turns out, it's a modern classic!
Petered out in the endgame for me but for the first 30 hours I had a great time with this gem.
What a good, good game. More Miles please!
