Best of 2010

Sanj: Best of 2010 .

This is not ordered by the review standard of what are "better" games, but by what I personally enjoyed more. For example, I know AC:B is a "better" game than FFXIII, but I could not help liking FFXIII more for one reason or another.

List items

  • Yes, it's linear. Yes, there are no towns to explore. Yes, the game has a slow start. But regardless of all that, I had a ton of fun playing FFXIII. When the game reached it's peak, the combat was excellent. Not only did it retain some of the strategic elements from previous entries of the franchise, but it was, simply put, fast and very fun. Also, the combat, as well as the rest of the game, just look amazing. The story kept me intrigued, and while some of the characters were a little cliche, they were still likeable and memorable. I think what I loved the most from the fiction of the game was the universe of FFXIII itself, and I'd honestly like to see more of it some day.

  • Fantastic gameplay and an excellent story. Ubisoft have finely tuned the traversal aspects of the game to near-perfection, and I cannot wait to find out where the story leads to.

  • I had a hard time choosing between this and Blazblue for the number 3 slot. The story in Blazblue is fantastic, whereas it's totally forgettable in SSF4. I don't believe SSF4 should be excused just because "fighting games don't need good stories". However, the sheer amount of hours I put into SSF4's multiplayer just about nudges the game to number 3. The fighting is just unmatched.

  • The story of Blazblue is impressive, not just by fighting game standards but by gaming narratives in general. You can tell a lot of care and attention went into creating the world of Blazblue, and the cast of characters have a ton of personality. The fighting is a lot of fun, however I still prefer SF4 in that regard.

  • As a fan of the show, it's a no brainer that this would be on my list. The game is pure fan-service!

  • Yep, Kratos...killing shit. As a fan of the franchise, what more could you want?

  • Due to certain circumstances, I did not play a lot of this game, but enough to place it at number 7. I'm sure it would have at least overtaken GoWIII had I played more!

  • One of the most charming and addictive games I played in 2010...just thinking about it makes me want to play more.

  • I've never simultaneously loved and hated a game to this extent before...the creators of Super Meat Boy are sadists.

  • Another excellent iPhone game. I could not get enough of this when it was released, and I'm looking forward to seeing further updates.
