"The Encyclopedia Bombastica is a collection of the greatest and most influential video games ever made, published in special editions of the highest quality, complete with special features showcasing the history and the art of gaming."
@corruptedevil: Super Fire Pro Wrestling Special is actually the first game directed by Goichi Suda, also known as Suda51, and it fits perfectly with the themes of his next games. The game is mostly famous for its dark and controversial storying, in which after having accidently killed your best friend in the ring and being dumped by your girlfriend just before your final match, your opponent for the championship (which I think is based on Ric Flair) reveals he murdered your coach. You eventually win the match, but then you realize you were wrestling to fight depression. Now that you are alone and with nothing else to do at the top, you commit suicide 3 days later.
I don't think "influential" is the word you want here. Maybe "innovative". I mean, you've got two 2D platformers on the list, and they both came out in the last few years. Back in the late eighties/early nineties, every second game in existence was a 2D platformer. Many of these are too new to have even had time to influence any other games.
I think these are really well done. They're beautiful and do a great job of capturing the feel of the games they're based on. I look forward to seeing more!
18 Days late I know but I agree with this screaming double question. =)
Agreed, Bombastica Collection or something similar might have fit better.
That said, these are some really neat designs. Do you have any high res versions? Been looking for something to get some canvas prints of for ages, and these might fit the bill.
@corruptedevil: You have every reason to do so: that original cover was too generic to even be considered mockingly bad.
Also as an aside to @vincentvendetta that Dear Esther cover reminds me of a hybrid of The Thin Red Line and Days of Heaven Criterion Collection cover. Gotta love Mallick and his use of cloudy skies:
@rjames24: I actually have made an cover for Ico using the game's original japanese box art long ago, but I've decided not to show it because... well, that was it. Just the original box art with the logo and the side info. Everyone can do it, everyone knows that cover, so there was no good reason to show it.
@bollard: Sadly, the vast majority of those cover are limited by the size and quality of the images I used. Still, I actually do have two complete box art that you could print, one for Dear Esther and one for WipEout 2097 (complete with inside cover). I might start working on more complete covers, but for now, here they are, complete with fake special features.

Thanks for that! The Wipeout one there was one of my favourites, so that's awesome. Image resolution was a problem I had when searching for neat posters too, it's a shame! Anyway, I'd love to see more of these.
