10 Games of Nostalgia

This is a list of the ten games that are swimming with Nostalgia for me. While I've owned many a game over the years, and played even more, these are the ones that get me all warm and fuzzy when I think about them. So her they are, in no particular order.
Disclaimer: if any of my memories of these games are wrong...don't worry about it.

List items

  • Ok so I lied about that in no particular order thing, because the first one on the list is my number one nostalgia game along with being my number one game of all time. I love this game for pretty much every reason you should love this game: story, characters, battle system, everything. I can still remember playing it for the first time (at a friends house, he couldn't get past the first boss and I did it in one shot). I can listen to the soundtrack and tell you which area goes with each song. I can even probably tell you, if you were crazy enough to listen, the entire flow of the game from start to finish. I love this game. A lot.

  • I'm putting the first one here because it's the original but I could just as well have put the second and third here as well. To me the first three Tony Hawk games meld together into one super awesome time in which the Pro Skater series was at the top of it's game. ENDLESS amount of my time has been spent in free skate mode, and of course it never got old.

  • This one is a little different because I actually never "owned" Galaga. What I did own was the first Tekken game, and when you started it up it let you play Galaga while you waited for it to load. I liked the first Tekken, I LOVED playing Galaga. I would boot up the game specifically to play Galaga for hours. To this day I think this game has the best SFX of all time.

  • Hell yeah I got caught up in this, hook line and sinker. Pokemon is one of those games that is so tied into the memories of my elementary school years that I really can't think of one without the other. This game probably has the record for the most times I've played through a game, even more the FFVII. This is probably because of the fact that there were so many Pokemon and that every playthrough could be a totally new game. I will forever remember battling friends, catching Mewtwo, and doing the item duplication glitch to cheat my team to level 100 with infinite Rare Candies.

  • This game to me is a little more obscure(ish) because I don't remember anyone other than myself ever owning it. At the time I was a full fledged Square fanboy (see first entry) and if Square was putting it out I probably wanted it. This was just all in all a really good game. It had two separate story lines tied too a male and female protagonist, a device I usually dislike but enjoyed in this game. The male protagonist's game was easily the better of the two and I I loved running around the town and slaughtering countless fantasy creatures in the woods.

  • This is a later game, but I played it long enough ago for it to be allowed into this list. Kingdom hearts was the first game since FFVII to truly pull me into its plot. Others had interested me before but this one enraptured me so thoroughly that I had too, HAD TOO finish the game with a full 100% to unlock the secret ending movie that revealed a little about the sequel. This game is just absurdly fun and endlessly entertaining. It also had Cloud and Sephiroth in it, and if you add those two too a game you got me.

  • Playing this game with my dad in our basement is my first memory of playing video games, so it automatically gets on this list. I was pretty terrible and we never made it very far, but my dad knew the Konami Code. In retrospect that makes him pretty cool.

  • Another later game, but also another one that I would just play through over and over. That goddamn tranquilizer gun was just too much fun. The early game twist was also only one of a handful of moments that I have ever been truly shocked in a video game.

  • I think The Legend of Dragoon is one of the most overlooked games ever. It was an absolute stunner of a game, and had one hell of a story. I don't know why no one ever talks about it, but I will never forget it myself.

  • Another Square game, at least it's not an RPG. Fun character, fun story, fun setting. A game that was nothing but fun. It's a super little dude witha giant sword! How can you not love it!? Anyway this game brings back some super warm memories of hacking away at big ole robots and chasing frogs, though I couldn't tell you why I was doing the later.
