@KaosAngel I don't know. I loved Ragnarok Online, and this is in that universe. It has a lot of charm. Have you ever liked a Monster Hunter game? I've heard it's similar in some ways to that. Apparently the controls are nice and help the overall fun of the game, as well.
Destructoid described it as the best Vita game so far; so, that's something. http://www.destructoid.com/review-ragnarok-odyssey-237672.phtml
Well I not going with the reviews on this one, I been enjoying it since last night. Also I been able to do a few hunts with people online with no issues.
Destructoid review is right where I am with the game
Everyone but IGN have been giving it good reviews. The only reason IGN gave it a 5 is because the guy reviewing it expected something different.
It is a co-op monster hunting game. You kill big monsters with your friends or random dudes. Get the loot, craft, and customize your character.
The IGN reviewer expected some kind of epic story-driven RPG or something, he even compared it to Mass Effect. LOL.
But that doesn't matter. It's all about the hunt. If that sounds like fun to you (why wouldn't it?), then no, you didn't waste your money.
@TruthTellah: I don't trust Destructoid at all with their reviews, they always seem to want to be contrary, trying too hard to be against the grain 'oh the general consensus is that its shit? well we LOVE it then!'. They're a desperate site all over really.

Well, that might be hard to do, as they were one of the first reviews of the game...
Reading the content of it, it sounds like a decent little review.
I've played a fair bit of RO by now, not quite got a platinum on the japanese version.
If you're looking for an epic story focused JRPG, ala Final Fantasy, then this is probably not what you want. If you wanted Norse Monster Hunter, or at least a solid action-RPG that is mostly gameplay centric, then you may like it a lot. I like the art style, and Monster Hunter is awesome so...yeah, this is a good vita alternative for that.

@KaosAngel: It seems like a good game. Don't feel bummed out for 1 negative review score.
This.
It's a fun Monster Hunter clone. You go on quests, you collect materials, you create and enhance weapons/armour, rinse and repeat. The online is pretty good too, wasn't laggy at all.
@KaosAngel: So... independent of reviews and whatnot, how are you feeling about it? You already own the game; so, how is your experience with it?

IGN gave it a 5.0 and said it fucking sucks though.
Meh, it could still be worth playing.
There seems to not be a good bad game category in the sense that movies have (they become intolerable to play). But sometimes games that are a little bit rehashes and have slightly broken systems can be fun, even if they are technically derivative.

Hey guys, I read on an amazon review that you cannot level up your character by killing monsters (grinding) but only by finishing chapters, meaning progressing through the story. That would suck because once you're finished with the story you cannot progress with your character... is that true?
You level your HP by finishing a chapter, and receive stat increases by putting cards into your armor. You can still progress your character by using better cards, and better suits of armor will have more slots, allowing you to add more stat increases.
Don't worry about what happens when you finish the game. The JP version already has content with new cards and armor, and I'm sure that stuff will hit stateside before long.
Think of it more like Monster Hunter, where your stats come from what you wear.
@Morrow: Sorry, didn't see your message! I didn't receive a notification. You're correct. Your character does not have an actual level. You will only gain stat increases through completing a chapter in the story. I believe this increases your HP, DEF, ATK, and maybe Stamina. You don't get a choice in what is upgraded, its all automated. However, the real stats game lies in weapon/armor and the cards mechanic. The cards will grant you certain abilities or stat increase/decrease. You can upgrade your armor to increase the amount of card points you can assign to your character.
As an aside, this game is pretty great. The online is pretty good too, connection wise. I'm on the final chapter for the story, and its getting kinda tough.
