Ridge Racer PSone Review
I cannot believe this currently had a 2 star review in wiki?!?!?
The original launch game for the PSone and although it only features a single track it does have and extended (hard mode) variant and well as reverse versions of both. instead of being a negative tho this just pushes you to beat your lap times by any fraction of a second you can manage.
The track selection may have been limited but the car selection on the other hand was a completely different matter, each giving you different driving styles a alternative challenges e.g drift, grip etc. and these don't even include the hidden Devil and Angel cars you need to beat to unlock.
The game may seem limited by todays standards but back at the PSone's launch this was arcade racing at home, the controls were fantastic and the graphics mind blowing and back at the launch (UK) it was between this and Doom as my goto games to show off the system. It was also in my opinion a much better game than the kinda beefed out sequel Revolutions.
Finally the biggest secret to this game is that the whole game loads into memory on load meaning that you can change out the CD and play any audio CD you like, one of the first games to ever have a custom soundtrack.
Namco/Sony Please give me an HD release of this original version.
