Finally something to listen to

The DS2 beta went up in Europe for sure, but we were once again unable to do anything but solo play, only ghosts and messages worked. I went in it mostly for trying online connectivity myself since that's sort of my goal, with ISP peering partners being an issue for too many things in life (like streaming on nicovideo).

And you will notice the difference between PS4 and Xbone BF3 on a 1080p TV from 6ft away. The question is if it will bother you.

Came here expecting discussion of Nintendo's Video Game Championship series, was disappointed.

This whole resolution thing is pretty dumb. Of cause resolution matters. It matters because visual matters. It is call a "Video Games", not pen and paper rpg. The only question is how much it matters to you personally. Its why people have been asking for FF7 remakes for years, its why HD remakes continues to sell and its why we are getting a new console because graphic and the advancement of the technology matters.

This gen, a game running at 640p and upscaled to 1080p was a tragedy, next generation, 720p upscaled to 1080p, you can't tell.

It's been pretty entertaining to watch the situation being downplayed by the gaming media and others.

@krakn3dfx: Yeah, Halo 3 really bombed because it had less pixels. I agree that its a shitty situation, but fact of the matter is that normal people don't care.

I agree but I am also not a "normal people". I am pretty passionate about gaming, passionate enough that I found a job around it. I care. a person everyone in my family and friends go to for electronic buying advice. I care because it is 2013 and 1080p have been the standards for quite a number of years now.

Its like having two restaurants in your neighborhood, both are pretty much equally good but one is more expensive and give you less food.

I am not arguing that normal people will care, but I think gamers are well with in their rights to care, not to mention game critics.

@shinjin977: I don't think anyone on this particular site could say that they're part of the normal people demographic. I'm still going to be playing most games this generation on my PC because I want the 1080p/60fps. The extra $100 is more of a turn-off to normies than resolution.

Bottom-line is this: Both PS4 and XBO will sell. Both will have good games. But XBO is going to have to prove itself before everything is equal again.

Probably, in this generation PS4 will have the graphical advantage they whole time. Moreover, they will have an early advantage in just pure breadth of games since they will have a strong first party line up from three territories, a strong 3rd party line up, and - at least at first - the most indie titles. The fans of XBO might not care about that, but they pretty much have to expect that they will be playing second fiddle for a time.

Could Microsoft turn this around? Yes, but it will take years of buying studios, pays for exclusives to fill in gaps, and being ruthless with its costs. It means not only going forward with their "180" from this summer, but actually REVERSING years of selling off studios and years of just expecting to be on top.

Microsoft has already had it gaffs, so they will not be allowed many more gaffs by anyone. Common gamers, core gamers, industry critics, or even fanatic weirdos won't stand for more issues. If MS has no major issues for the next two years they will crawl out of the hole they are in just like PS3 crawled out. If they crawl out they won't have perception issues, and this past year will dim in people's memory.

for all the shit cheapy gets about being a microsoft fanboy, JJ was getting really irritating with spouting off like a Gaf user. Anything bad about ps4 had an excuse, anything good about Xbox was bullshit.

When this wierd syndrome of "IMMA HAFTA SPIN TO NOT LOOK LIKE I'M SPINNING FOR A PARTICULAR CONSOLE OMG WHY IS EVERYONE TALKING RESOLUTION, IT DOESNT MATTER, LEMME TALK ABOUT RESOLUTION SO THERE'S LESS FOCUS ON THE RESOLUTION" passes, alot of people will have some real embarrassing reputations on-line. It's like Fawlty Towers almost. "Whatever you do, Don't. Mention. The. Resolution!"

Wait, wait, wait, wait...we're complaining that you don't know you have a message on PSN? Seriously; its an icon of a letter just like you'd have on Outlook or Gmail. I've not once ever had a problem knowing that I had a message since launch on PS4, lol.

Without spouting off on the cliche argument of "x user is in the tank for x company/system" I will say that resolution does matter for me. I have a 60" television and I want 1080p or at least as close as possible (BF4 is 900p on PS4/720p on Xbone). These ARE launch games so they aren't even indicative of what we will eventually see within a year, but still...if I am shelling for a new system to play games I can mostly already play then I want a native resolution as close to 1080p as possible.

I need to listen to this podcast more often, it's pretty good.
