@teddie: That is a really good recommendation, how about an episode of free roam/side stories/real-state and then an episode progressing the story.

I notice that I do not progress much of the story until the side content is cleared up, still on chapter 6 and I have so many hours logged in it. Nearly completed the real-estate side-game

This seems genuinely great. I'm torn between continuing to watch the series now, or going ahead and buying the game and playing ahead.

Also, I'm a little surprised none of the guys seemed to know that this was the ship from Fantasy Zone.

@shinjin977: They're essentially the same way. The only issue Dan seemed to be having was that he was mashing the ever living hell out of the light attack button and ignoring the flashing "HEAT" indicator with Triangle in the upper right hand corner that disappears everytime you initiate a punch.

Same thing with the enviromental stuff, Dan either didn't notice it, or got distracted with how awesome it is to drop kick/hit dudes with a bat. Understandbly so as well, he'll get the hang of it.

Daisaku Kuze should be one of the best characters in this year GOTY. Yakuza 0 is his first appearance.

I love this series so far and I've wanted GB to play throughone of these games for a long time but this is gonna take a long time if they're gonna do 2 hours per week.

I mean I'm currently 50 hours in at around the middle of the game, maybe they skip a bunch of substories, the real estate story and the cabaret club stories but still, it is a loooong game

Especially if you wanna do everything

@madlaughter: Good tips. Also, just hit the drug store (it's like center of the map, right by the CP shrine) and just stock up on Staminan Royales.

I just hope Dan tries to pay attention to the game mechanics and story itself. I have a feeling this is going to take a long time if he doesn't get the combat down.

@alex I'd probably recommend you try not to read any more about the game going forward. I've been playing through it for a few weeks and not looking anything up and so much of it is way funnier when you have no idea it's coming: dialogue, side missions, everything. Like you, I've never played a Yakuza game before, so I had no idea what to expect and that makes everything so much better.

At least in this episode, it sounds like you've read ahead to get a sense of what's going on and what you guys should expect, and while that's admirable for trying to steer the ship here to ensure an entertaining show, yeah I'd definitely recommend to stop looking up stuff and (largely) try to steer clear of tips and info people send you and just enjoy it all as it comes up.

Otherwise, keep up the great work! This has been really fun so far.

Just started my only playthrough, and I hope @danryckert finds the weapon heat actions (or @alex/@vinny point them out). Only see salt and bowling ball, but they are pretty great.

@l1ama said:

Does anyone know if the way Kuze pronounces his Rs is specific to some kind of Japanese accent or dialect? Is it the Japanese equivalent to italian-american stereotypes, or just a thing?

I've been reading some of Tokyo Vice[1], and it mentioned something along the lines of rolled Rs being a yakuza stereotype and that it's played up in media depictions (IIRC, it's something along the lines of "He didn't roll his Rs like heavies in the movies" when describing a yakuza).

[1] Which AFAIK isn't 100% factual (as it claims), but the basic facts are accurate

I have only played 4 hours of this, but have already seen some heat actions that Dan never used. I wasn't even fishing for them, they just happened.

Game has a lot of style, but I find it a bit odd how the cutscenes switch between motion comic/cgi/in-engine. Sometimes with no gameplay between. I guess it's for variety sake, since there is so much of it?
