Jim Sterling should travel around the country and a stage a workshop for game reviewers about how to actually use the full 10-point scale and not just 6 through 9.5.

@disembodio: yea, Jim has noted on multiple occasions he has regretted his brash attitude in the past and admits to being wrong. Dude, if any thing, will listen to at least some criticism!

@bunnymud: In merry olde England, wearing a hat inside a home is considered rude. Jim is a proper gentleman like that.

I felt like such an asshole when someone had to tell me to take off my hat while inside a Royal Canadian Legion club for British Ex-Servicemen. Sometimes I wonder if I'm going to British hell.

@disembodio: If you like his opinions on video games and the gaming industry, Jimquisition is the way to go. Avoid his earlier videos as they tend to be a little distasteful, but again he took the criticism to heart and his show became better that way.

If you just enjoy his pure honesty and passion, then Movie Defense Force is great. For a guy that can rip developers and games to a whole new dimension, listening to him speak fondly of something is a joy to watch.

And if you want just some fucking perverse, insane shit then listen to his podcast the Dismal Jesters. It is anything but acceptable.

Bombin' the A.M. literally just had a decent conversation about the necessary balance which must be struck in maintaining a healthy Free Market that allows for ample business opportunity while protecting consumers.

Awesome episode, boys. Keep 'em coming.

I really liked the comparison of audience comments, malevolent or not, to chinese water torture. Being a public figure caught in a storm of memes, hive mentality, and circle jerk opinions, is how I imagine the deepest pits of hell.

@thiago123: I agree. He's the reason I never went back to Destructoid. That and he comes off like a troll, or at least he used to.

@brasshi: Seeing as how the games industry latched onto Cookie Clicker and Frog Fractions shows that most of the "games press" are just trolling their reader base.

I like Jim, I feel like he's one of the only people who sees how weird and stupid and crazy this whole industry is and doesn't pretend like he's some super invaluable war journalist or something.

I used to hate Jim Sterling, but he mellowed out heavily the last couple of years. He used to have a purely trollish mentality, now he's more sincere and often talks about topics that few journalists do.

He's also surprising when he's serious and touched - his The Last of Us review weirded me out in this regard.

I admit, his trolling kind of drove me away from Destructoid. Over time, I found that I just wasn't interested in "what's wrong with video games". The health of the industry stopped concerning me, because I realized...it's not part of my income. I really don't care how successful these games are.

If he really has mellowed, i'll give this one a listen.

I really never really liked Sterling, actually really disliked him. Tried a little bit too hard for attention - but he was totally cool in this, funny even. Good on Scoops for diversifying the guests for this show.

@patrickklepek At the end Jim waxes pretty political concerning refund policies. The UK's consumer's rights has seen many players returning digital content that they did not like for a refund. Of course, in the US, such policies are not enforced but complementary.

this topic seems to come up in the latest podcast as well. except in that instance, it is Australia, and I assume, according to sensible economics, the lost profits resulting from that sort of refund policy enforcement is averaged out and considered when pricing, to mitigate the cost. So that may be another potential reason why game prices in the UK and in AUS are higher.

I figured that this was information that you and the bombcast mightve been aware of, but wanted to let you know anyway.

To play devil's advocate, I don't think the "click on this and wait for something to finish" concept in games is inherently terrible. Nimblebit's Tiny Towers and Pocket Planes are also built on that. It allows for quick bite, check in when you have a minute, make some decisions, make some progress, then go back to life gameplay. Which is perfect for how a lot of people use their phones. It can be exploited to make a game gross and unfun, but you can gate progress behind timewalls and still have a fun game.

Great show, wonderful to see Jim again. I liked him before as well, but his more chilled demeanor of late is well suited for a show like this. :)

I haven't heard Jim sterling talk about anything since I slowly stopped listening to podtoid a while back. It'll be good to hear him talk about stuff again, as he knows his way around a podcast pretty damn well.
