Astroneering with Brad and Vinny: Episode 05 [Vinny's View]

I read the description and thought, "uh oh, what happens in this video?" Then I saw them travel to Calidor with a half-empty thruster and immediately knew what they were in store for.

@vinny and @brad: I try not to post on the internet, but I feel that I need to express just how much I ENJOY this series! You guys got me to play this game myself and watching you guys play this game has been the number 1 thing that I look forward to every week!

I am one of those min-maxing players, so while it is frustrating at times to watch you guys fumbling in the dark, so to speak, there is also a kind of joy in that. I love that you guys are just exploring things and trying things out and doing "useless" goofy things in this game. TBH, I am actually jealous of that... Since I look up everything and always try to plan for the most "optimal" path, but that takes away some of the fun from trying things out, from being challenged by "space exploration, and from emergent game play.

I am so glad that I get to vicariously enjoy some of that fun from watching you guys doing things that I dare not to do (like just flying to a planet, or splunking w/o tether, tho the latter I am less worried about doing now thanks to you, since you made me realize that I can just make the "wasteful" oxygen filter on demand to keep me alive). And I had NO idea that day/night cycle of the game is actually based on orbital position! (at one point it was night time for one of you and the other in day time).

Oh and vinny, I definitely know how you feel about your need to retrieve your corpse... I definitely have done something similar, I just don't want to lose the stuff that I already built! (loss aversion at work here folks...)

I could go on and on gushing about this series, but I will shut up now. But just a quick heads up. AUTOMATION of some sort is supposedly coming IN JUNE! And dedicated servers are coming this month that would allow crossplay between xbox and steam!

Please play more, I am suffering from withdraw right now...

@babyboy420: I have read your other comments, and you are just as much of a dick in those as your original one. The amount of time you have spent on this website doesn't give you the right act like a jerk to people. If you find a video frustrating then don't watch it, it's really simple. If you think Brad or Vinny are doing something wrong, you can try to give advice, but that isn't what you did.

50% of the words in every video on Giant Bomb are currently "Oh boy"

This is one of the few GB videos that made me more stressed than I was before I watched it. I love them playing Astroneer, but I felt like the balance of progress to chaos was perfect in the other videos and just went all the way to chaos in this one. The psychology of watching the numbers go up and the meters fill isn't just something that affects the player, it affects the viewer to some degree as well. And the inverse when things stall.

I'm sure it's a fluke or whatever, it was still fun to watch overall. The prior videos really are some of my favorite stuff they've put out this year.

@babyboy420: Vinny was just having fun on a stream, the reasons for your frustration entirely falls on you. What is so wrong with two friends having fun and sharing it with their fans, you must see babyboy420 ( Great name ) is that we tune in to see friends having fun and relate. Don't be a debbie downer and turn that frown upside down.

@conduitfoursale: Agreed, I don't understand how anyone can have absolutely no sense of direction or focus the way he does.

@vinny: Thanks for the great streams. I love your bumbling around in them and that's what makes them entertaining. As a fellow dad teaching two young children at home in north jersey, having these to watch and make me laugh has been really helpful to unwind. It's fun watch both your and Brad's stream on multi monitors simultaneously. I started playing Astroneer with my kids when these first appeared and you and Brad have really helped me understand the game better. We made the hop to planet Calidor shortly after you guys did so I feel like I'm following along. They really love watching and learning about the game and it gives us something to talk about together. Thanks for the distraction!
