Mario Party Party: Fuzion Frenzy Frenzy

I really can't get mad at Dan's competitiveness at this point. We all know he's super competitive. I'm not competitive myself but I get where he's coming from. And honestly I thought the arguing at the end was funny.

This is all fun and games in the end so whatever.

I get that Dan is a performer, and the competitive spirit was meant to be entertaining, but it felt a bit awkward at the end and soured the fun for me. Just a little bit though.

95% of the stream was great!

This game is shit, this video is good. Can’t wait for the squeakquel.

His let's plays and other solo stuff are just as competitive in my opinion. Always rushing through to show off that he's good at games. Except...well he isn't that good. Watching an hour of him getting caught by every guard in metal gear while shouting "I hate this" is not great TV, sorry guys.

Dan's heel persona is so good

I love Abby's expression when someone exited the game. That's just bad design too. Also, love the ending! Dan gave the stream so much personality making it memorable for such a bad game.

Did anyone else notice that Dan's voice for Zack was effectively Zek (the Grand Negus) from Deep Space Nine? I couldn't get over the coincidence.

Wow I was really shocked when Bill Gates showed up at the end and played a round with them.

I've met some of the Giant Bomb guys a couple times at some E3 and Paxparties years ago, but even so I don't consider them friends. Industry relationships, sure, but they are entertainers first, to me. I respect that they have outside lives, and that their life doesn't revolve around the things that happen on screen, BUT, that doesn't mean that when they make something on screen that sucks, or causes people discomfort, they shouldn't be called on it.

"They have relationships off screen" doesn't mean a lot to me, and others, when the on screen isn't very pleasant to watch. It's not some constant thing, but there have been a few times where interactions between folks have made people uncomfortable, be it relentlessly making fun of Bakalar (even good naturedly) on the Beastcast, or Dan making it clear many times over he has difficulty functioning as an adult.

It's criticism that they can choose to accept or ignore, but that's on them.

Dan hasn't been this shook since the pog incident!

This was a lot of fun. They deserve some kind of award for making Fuzion Frenzy watchable.

This was so damn funny. Instant classic for Giant Bomb in my opinion. Dan’s Zak voice almost put Alex into “Big Rigs” mode at a couple points.

Edit: That ending was all in good fun. For what it's worth @danryckert was correct, there should be one winner. However problem is, nobody seemed to remember that at the start of the game Dan had 1 "glitch" point that they were supposed to subtract when everyone else was at zero. Looks like @vinny was the one true Frenzy king the whole time! PLOT TWIST(ED SYSTEM).

If I wanted to watch someone putting on an act, I’d be subscribed to those YouTube channels where people pretend to scream at “scary” stuff.

It’s not an act or “playing the heel”, there really people who are in their mid 30’s but still behave like petulant children.

@ericsmith: You've gotten some pushback, so I figure I'll weigh in on this, in support of what you've said. It's late and I'm tired, and I probably shouldn't be as open as I'm going to be, but fuck it.

I did not grow up in a perfectly happy family. My father was an alcoholic, and while I don't have very many strong memories of my childhood, some of my most vivid are of huddling with my little sister at the top of the stairs, listening to my father yell at my mother. This is, obviously, a very different dynamic than Dan's heel shtick in this video, but it did leave me very sensitive to situations where people I like or care about are fighting - even pretend-fighting. And yes, I'll use the word, I have been "triggered", occasionally, by some of the stuff on the site - Dan sometimes being shitty, ribbing on Jeff B, Ben and Rorie's "feuds". I know, on a conscious level, that these things aren't serious, and no one on staff is nursing a loathing of anyone else, but it doesn't stop me from flashing back to being that scared and powerless child.

I'm not saying they need to stop doing that type of stuff. I'm personally of the opinion that safe, low stakes exposure to that kind of stimuli is helpful to people carrying some emotional scars. However, I agree 1000% with Eric, that staff should be aware of the consequences their actions can have on people in their audience, and I don't think there is anything wrong with pointing it out when it happens. I also don't think there is anything wrong with anyone who is more sensitive to it than me, not wanting to sit through it - we watch these videos for fun, after all, and if something makes you feel uncomfortable, no one should mock, insult, or belittle you for bowing out.

Seconded. A lot of times it's a broken record, and the song isn't that great.

People who pick on others for being upset or critical are weak. And the people claiming that Dan is a good heel are the ones that wouldn't know a good heel if it roundhoused them in the face. However many times it needs to be said, this is not wrestling. These are semi-regular people playing video games for a website. This isn't some Tooth Fairy shit where if enough people believe it, it suddenly becomes true. Heels only exist in wrestling. A troll is not the same thing as a heel. If the audience can't tell you're trying to be a heel, it's not the audience's fault, and you're not a heel.

There aren't any protagonists and antagonists, or everyone would have ganged up on Dan throughout the feature. But they didn't, because that would not have been fun, because this is not a soap opera, and because they're not assholes.

There wasn't some wacky bet Dan was trying to get out of by wanting to keep playing this awful, awful game. Dan was just trying to recover his wounded pride. And because he was unsuccessful and visibly upset, the part of Dan's fanbase that doesn't simply enjoy him for his outright heel trolling felt imbalanced and needed to leave comments about what a great professional wrestler he is. What they are doing is completely understandable, but it's completely unnecessary in terms of what this website requires to produce good content. This shit belongs on Twitter, where people can heap one-liners of praise or criticism and go about their day not knowing they're being ignored, and where nobody writes an essay explaining why the same pattern of injury and defense keeps surrounding one of the staff members.

Because here's another comments section partially devoted to something controversial Dan did during a feature. So yes, disable the comments if they're not going to add anything of value and will only upset the people providing the content, especially if it comes across as making your audience choose sides.

With that said, congratulations to Vinny, the undisputed four-time Fuzion Frenzy champion, even though they only played the game one time! He's just that much better than everyone else who was playing the game, and we have documented evidence to prove it.
