Getting an email saying "Sign in now or your account will be deleted in 48 hours" or whatever amount of time would immediately make me think it's a scam and I'd just ignore the email.

That Ubisoft story really should have been the headline of the show. I don't see how this isn't legitimately viewed as theft considering a) the games in question aren't being delisted, b) even when games are delisted those who had a purchase can still obtain them and c) as Jordan indicated, it's not necessary with all other competitors doing it in a way that doesn't cause loss of purchase. Hopefully the chat is right and that it's a bug and/or only impacting accounts with no games associated with it, otherwise Ubisoft should expect a class action on their lawyers' doorstep in short order.
