Thanks, bombers, for sacrificing your physical and mental health to bring your fans these many hours of FREE entertainment, it is much appreciated. That said, I was not a fan of this year's format. While I did enjoy 3 days of discussion covering most of the memorable releases in 2019, I prefer more award categories and the chaos that comes out of that. I'm already looking forward to December 2020...these GOTY podcasts are literally something I look forward to each and every year. Best wishes ya'll.

I know it's opinions but in a list with a CoD, Mortal Kombat and a fitness game they say the best Resident Evil game ever can't even be number 3. Shit.. For me the story, characters, gameplay/combat and puzzle solving in RE2 is better than most of that top 5. It didn't even get mentioned in other categories.

Coming to this late, but I prefer this format. I really enjoy hearing them all just talk about all the games that came out this year. I miss some of the categories, but I feel like the categories led to more repetitive discussions. I also appreciate dropping most of the negative categories. That stuff got a little mean spirited sometimes and I don’t think we lost anything by dropping them.

Also I was blown away by Jeff’s experience with Outer Wilds. Like, there isn’t a “right” way to play a game, but he definitely was approaching everything about that game in the worst way possible. He even mentioned how the only thing he found on planets were the other astronauts, but each of them has a dialysis option that says “what is there to do on this planet”? I just don’t understand how you can play that game and not find anything to do.

I abhor this new format. Disinteresting and underwhelming.

Taking out the negative categories feels the same as when schools started giving every kid a participation trophy in junior athletics. Blergh.

I'm kind of surprised people like the Modern Warfare campaign so much. I got a general bad vibe from it, but that might be due to me playing it after certain things in the news in December had happened.

Like there were some things in Death Stranding's story I thought were dumb, like most people. But then I came away from MW's story thinking: "oh, this is what people mean when they say 'no one is immune to propaganda'".

I know you guys are trying to go for a more positive vibe and stuff, but I really, really miss the older style of GotY podcasts from 2017 and prior. The hottest mess, please stop (check yourself before you wriggity wreck yourself award for things that need to take a break before they become the worst trend), worst game, biggest disappointment, etc were all categories that were super funny because they were some of the few categories that people actually agreed on. The group consensus often ended up being the brightest spots in the entire deliberations.

Seriously, man. I used to look forward to going to work the week that GotY podcasts came out because I could listen to them all week. Now, I'll just go back and listen to 2017's and 2016's again instead. Also, this new format makes the first three days just feel unnecessary. Giant Bomb talks about games every week already. We don't need those first three days because we already have heard you talk about all these games.

my annoyance with Outer Wilds came from things in that world that have function, but you aren't intended to ever use them for anything. Black Hole Forge, Gravity Cannon. I spent HOURS launching myself at things in that Nomai ship believing it had to have a purpose. I had a number of ideas of what to use it for and just kept trying and failing. My thought process being "why would they make this something that works and you can use if there's no reason for you to actually use it?" But yeah, the Black Hole Forge and Gravity Cannon and other stuff like that look like they have a functional puzzle-sovling use but they don't. And that's frustrating.

While not as bad as the one two years ago this GOYT was disappointing, I get what they where trying to do with the format but, it wasn't as interesting, I feel like games got their due anyways in the old format. I feel like Dan's critics skills are regressing. Mostly I missed the video content.

I finally finished all this content. It was a lot. Overall, I enjoyed it. I do miss the negative categories though - I hope they come back.

Outer Wilds is a good game, but wasn’t the best game for me. It’s the only game in a long time that actively gave me motion sickness. The controls were a hot mess. On top of that, the story isn’t really that impactful. If you read a couple science fiction books a year, you might even feel the story is trite at best.

I was so angered by the controls and the motion sickness that I just went and watched a Watch It Played on YouTube to see what I was missing. That improved my overall opinion of the game, for sure. But to talk about it as “one of my favorite of all time” is just, to use Brad’s words, insane. Many games *this year* had better stories, game play, and emotional punch. Including FE, which didn’t even make their list. In the end, it’s *their* game of the year, so it’s the exact right choice. Just not one I can fully get on board with.

Wow Jeff sounds like an uninformed fanboy, I know he hates Xbox becuase Phil pissed in his cornflakes or whatever the reason is but he really went with the tired old put down all MS focus on is gears n halo? What about Halo Wars 2, SSO, Quantum Break, Re-Core, SOD, SOT, ORI. Cuphead, Forza Horizon I mean what did Sony have yet another Killzone, uncharted, TLOU, and God of War, all PS3 or even PS2 franchises

MS did not have the best Gen in terms quality that is for sure but to say they only focused on Halo and Gears is disingenuous, hell we only got 1 halo FPS all gen the same number as Killzone

I don't frequently agree with Jeff but i do agree Outerwilds does feel a bit aimless.

I don't understand how you can play games professionally, play Outer Wilds for hours, never discover the ship log, OR the entire basis of storytelling (translation), and then blame the game lol
