Of course he had to die, though. And die he did, riding the bottom of that rocket like Slim Pickins'. Alex was all, "is he still alive?" and they zoom in and Jeb's literally standing, SURFING, on the thing. Grinning all the way. Couldn't have asked for a better way out.

I could have maybe asked for vinny to just revert the flight to launch and take out the extra passengers... a Dudney kerman is not worth the life of a Jebediah. It just ain't.

So theres a glitch on the vid, clocks in around 2hrs 10 for it's natural "next time" ending then an hour of just black void. I stared into that void. Nothing! @vinny

i gotta say I am really impressed with how far they've come and how well they're doing. I played KSP a couple years ago and got as far as being able to establish a stable orbit around Kerbin. Even THAT was one of the best feelings of my gaming life. These guys started there a few months ago and this time they really blew me away. That maneuver took them a bit to figure out, but they absolutely nailed it!

I was waiting for something to appear! Is there any way to save the Kerbal orbiting the sun?

The maneuver node system helps you plan, but it's projected course involves instantaneously changing your velocity by the magnitude of the burn. It's a simplified calculation that doesn't take the real world constraint of how fast your ship can accelerate into account.

Since you can't accelerate instantly, you have to straddle the maneuver node and do half your burn before it and half after. The result works about the same (it's more accurate the shorter your burn is) as if you'd done the instant acceleration thing but has the advantage of actually being physically possible.

Also... Christ Almighty, once you're within 'drive around in a car' distances in similar orbits, you can just point your ship at your target ship and burn there directly from the ship view without messing about with the maneuver nodes. Once you're near, Target Mode on the nav ball and burn Retrograde to slow down relative to the target. It's funny watching the things you guys fuss over vs. the things you do carelessly.

@tarfuin: Yeah, what they achieved is no small feat. They still have a lot to learn especially in terms of craft design but they're learning quickly.
