8-4 Play: OHHH YEAHHHHH 7-13-2012

With Mark away soaking up the rays of freedom, we asked friends of the show Alex “cvxfreak” Aniel and Rob “star” Fox to join us to talk about EVO 2012, Spelunky, DYAD, the Resident Evil 6 demo (and cafe), Time Travelers, Penny Arcade Rain-Slick 3, Ouya, Gaikai, Blooblah, Hodfarg and more.

Every other week, tune into 8-4 Play for talk about video games, Japan, and Japanese video games, straight from the 8-4 offices in beautiful downtown Tokyo. Hosted by 1UP Japan's own Mark MacDonald, John Ricciardi, and Hiroko Minamoto.

It's always interesting to hear people I like on the outside of the FGC comment on stuff within the community. As opposed to chastizing you guys for small inconsistencies and just obliviousness about the culture, I'll just say ... you guys are adorable. Also, to say "I thought it was going to be Daigo's year." I'd have to ask, where have you guys been for the past 12 years? Maybe it's because Daigo is the only name you guys really know and are apprehensive [lazy] about learning other peoples names, but welcome to the new age of fighting games. Daigo is and has been a great player for over a decade, let some other players get some shine.

Another good podcast. They are at their best when Mark is away. They keep saying how awesome of a host he is but I think they've been fooled into thinking that dominating the conversation and saying fuck every 4 seconds = host of the year.

Hiroko, Alex, and Rob were pretty good. I hope the last two come back more often, especially Rob. He and Brad are like the only southerners I've ever heard associated with the gaming industry.

I agree entirely about Mark. When the usual gang is together they bicker quite a bit, and while that is often the primary source of entertainment, there is, unfailingly, a moment (or two, or three) in EVERY podcast where they cross a line and your ears are assaulted by two or more high-pitched voices screeching to be heard over the rest and I will unconsciously mutter "god, shut the FUCK UP" under my breath. They really need to lay off the caffeine before they record.
