Movie Podcast where no one goes to see the movies! Glad to have the podcast back though! Keep it up guys, but fight the old man urges, and go see a movie or two.

I had to use a check book a few times when they canceled my debit card my bank didn't have any temp cards, and I had to wait 7 days for my new card to arrive. I also don't have any credit cards (no real good reason for it I just never got around to it.)

Like @rorie, I also haven't been going to the movies because of health issues (Thor 2 was the last one, I think), but even with my 60" tv, I still think the theater is my preferred movie viewing experience. The screens there are just so enormous that I don't think there's any comparison.

But then again, I always sit up near the screen, and I get the impression that most people don't.

Edit: A Good Day to Die Hard is easily the worst movie I've ever seen in a movie theater.

For those 2 seconds, Alex had a great grandma voice.

Loving True Detectives, can't wait to find out what happened with the girls in the woods. Should be just in time for the next season of Hannibal as well.

TV cop shows sure look pretty these days.

I can't say enough good things about True Detective. For 60 minutes it completely absorbs me. And when the episode ends all I want to do is to be able to watch the next one. If I had to pick one word to describe it it would be "enthralling"... And holy crap, those performances!

"Only play video games, fuck movies."

Way ahead of you guys. I did that back in 1996. Hollywood has scrapped past the bottom of the barrel, and are digging ever deeper year after year.

@elwoodan: That's when you reply with something like "Yeah, it's a good thing volcanoes aren't real."

Guess I saw a different American hustle then Alex as I thought it was brilliant, plus a movie podcast where neither hosts have seen barely any of the biggest movies of the year?! Plus the ragging on grown ups gets old, it might not be your thing but it's not the worst film ever, it's just a bunch of friends having fun and Adam sandlers audience enjoy it. If you don't like Adam sandlers films then why keep bringing them up?

Glad to hear some much deserved love for Paul Verhoeven, one of my absolute moviemakers and of course the mastermind behind the best movie ever made, Starship troopers. Good on you, @rorie!

Because it was specifically mentioned in the Razzie nominations which we were discussing.

@rorie: Before I listen to this, any spoilers I should be aware of? I don't need time stamps, I just basically need to know if you guys get detailed about Her.

I don't care about much else!

Neither of us have seen it, so I don't think we spoil anything about it I think?

I got through this whole thing and I still don't know what Her is about, so that's good. Fun listen, as always!

It's back, finally.

True Detectives sounds like a real treat. I'm in dire need of a new great TV-series to watch, can't wait.

I also think Alex hit the nail on the head in describing American Hustle. I really looked forward to it and wanted to love it so bad. And for the most part it was fine. But, man, that resolution pulled me right out of the experience. Felt as if the movie shifted tone completely.

The girl in True Detective Rorie was talking about is the girl in the Percy Jackson movies. She is quite a looker.

Its great to have you back guys, but if you are going to do a movie podcast you really (especially you, Rorie) need to actually watch some movies. Its kind of depressing to tune in hoping for some interesting chat about all the great films which are currently out just to hear people talk about how they are done with going to the cinema and sound like they are losing their enthusiasm for the medium.

You are both very enjoyable podcast company to but no-one can can conjure worthwhile listening from impressions of trailers or Oscar picks for a load of movies they haven't seen. If Alex hadn't had a plane to catch this would have been a seriously thin show.

I hope this doesn't come across as mean or insulting, I just think you guys can do a whole load better (i've heard you do so many times). If your hearts aren't in it anymore maybe give it a rest - otherwise get out to the cinema - its actually a lot of fun. :)

I know i'm a little late to this, never listed to any of these and wanted to check it out, gotta say really disagree with a lot of stuff you guys think, but hey opinions right?

As someone who has Poltergeist as a top 5 greatest movie of all time, The Conjuring was probably the best kinda remake possible, personally i like horror where i care about the characters and the horror is more in me fearing for the characters than really jumping out of my seat, I thought Lilli Taylor was great and that just about every child actor brought thier A game. Also thought James Wan's direction was great and super tense with plenty of slow build up moments, particularly that like 30 second shot of the kid (I think it was Joey King) just looking scared but also shes looking at nothing.

Also thought Now You See Me is a very fun movie, yeah the twist didn't make any sense, but the whole movie was set up in way where it kind of lets you know up front that there no real rules. Seeing it in that light the movie is like a 2 hour circus show, with fun cat and mouse moments, crazy twists and a pretty good effects and camaraderie.

I think american hustle could have been pretty great, its hard to say this as someone who generally likes most everything David O Russell does, but his direction really killed the movie, it was excessive in things it didnt need to be, and lacked in plotting and actual character depth. Overall still an OK movie.

I generally dont care about oscars (too political) and critics, the nature of opinion is what makes us unique and when we put too much stake in the opinions of others we kind of give up our individuality a bit, so normally i see movies based on its personal appeal.

Anyways it was pretty neat to hear your guys thoughts on stuff, just wish you guys wouldnt concentrate so much on the negatives of movies, i mean its fine to mention them, but it shouldn't really hit you guys as hard as say grown ups hits rorie, idk "i'm rambling".
