I still don't understand why any of this is a thing, MGS is juvenile, cheesy, anime-ish but most importantly: boring

WHY!? Someone make me understand!?

Don't care about cardboard boxes not being in this game. I never used them, and the most I get out of it is like a 5 second gag referencing older MGS titles so no big deal there.

Also good to see that many gameplay elements from Peace Walker exist in the game.

I wish brad would of poked around more in some of the post-game missions and stuff. Little disappoitned by the ground they covered in the quick look, but still. Overall excited to play this.

Still not too happy with sutherland though, no weight to it. :/

If it was only the first game, I would disagree, but fuck man. They totally just went off the cliff with this series. Kojima is a fucking terrible story teller. And I was such a big fan of that first MGS game. And then they just started throwing all this shit at it and it might be fine except it they treat it like a super serious drama, just look at the trailer for Phantom Pain. It is like Kojima thinks each of these games has an important message and is equivalent to an Oscar caliber movie. And I keep coming back hoping it will be good and not stupid anymore, but that doesn't happen.

Man this looks good in 60fps.

Almost makes me want to buy a PS4. But pestering Konami about a PC version would be even better. Just tell me how many additional copies of Rising I need to buy.

There's a podcast where they talk about the MG series in detail. I'm pretty sure Jeff loves the crazy, OTT Metal Gear games like 2 and 4.

It's such a shame some people are missing out by not playing Peace Walker. Co-op is fun and packed with stupid MGS stuff. You can team up in a cardboard box tank with one player controlling the tank and the other one shooting. You can totally automate and skip all of the micromanagement to play the story.

My feelings could not be any more different than yours: Uninspired missions, terrible voice acting and dialogue. The worst game in the franchise. I especially hate it since its treading on my favorite of the series, Snake Eater.

There is no way I'm spending anything more than 15 dollars for this prologue. I can't help but compare this to Dead Rising 2: Case Zero. Both are short but replayable difference is Case Zero was $5. I think I'll probably just buy the HD collection for 20 bucks and finish that while I wait for MGS 5.

MGS Peacewalker is a fantastic HANDHELD game. It captures the best pockets of missions from MGS II and III. Unfortunately, the entire fifth chapter of the game is absolute bullshit and Kojima should be shamed. SOOOOOOOOO REPETITIVE!

If they weren't stupid, no one would care. There's 2 things people come to MGS for - the ridiculous stupid crazy over the top story and the really good stealth gameplay, if you lost one of those things, it just wouldn't be the same.

It feels weird every time this is referenced as a game. I can't get past the paid for demo mentality. I remember playing the SWAT 3 demo endlessly, even though it was just one mission. I fail to see how this is not a similar case. It is totally disingenuous to think of this product as anything but the same. Maybe such an argument would have carried more weight when the GT5 prologue was released, I'm not sure. I assume this mission will not be in the main game, in which case welcome to the most expensive pre-release DLC you've seen. Welcome to next gen.

I agree, its also very weird when Brad is very excited about a game and stops him self from wanting to tell the story, it makes me very intrested about the game play.

This isn't going to be part of the main game and it is more than just one mission, there's like 4 other ones you unlock later and 1 secret one. It all takes place on the same map, but it is pretty big.

Yeah, basically. The first game is the only one I would say has a legitimately good story, even if some parts could have been handled with a little more grace. The silly stuff came off as much more earnest and properly hammed-up, and the crazy bosses seemed more supernatural or paranormal rather than all anime/cartoonish the other games get to be. MGS3 was great too, a lot of the character work was slick and fun - it just wasn't as tight and consistent as 1 was, and obviously got way crazier.

I would say 2 is still my favorite, just for the minimalist but still deep gameplay (holding dudes up is still a blast in these games!) and just how fucking funny and wild it got.

This here is another MGS phenomenon I just don't get... Why is worldwide famous Kojima Productions getting a pass with this blatantly obvious milking demo?

Have any other dev put something like this, it would be outrageous.

@brad There is an ADS/scope view option:

Ready your weapon with L2, then hit R1.

Kiefer's voice feels just... wrong. I want David Hayter back :(

Or Kurt Russell.

getting real tired of watching Brad pace back and forth in every Quick Look. Guy can not talk and play at the same time.

I'm not even a big MGS fan, but dropping Hayter killed the character. Sutherland is unremarkable.

Have to disagree with Jeff too, the Big Boss games have the most interesting storylines and settings.

I do not, repeat, do NOT care what anyone or everyone says. This series has the most amazing stories and characters. I love MGS 4. I can see why snake eater may be other's. I honestly enjoyed them every single console game in the series. the handheld stuff I just couldnt get into. I love how serious this series can be but also how over the top it is at times. I hope they can somehow keep the boss fights in 5 on par with the excellent track record MGS has over the previous 4 games.

There is also a small feeling deep within me (about the size of a single nanomachine) that there is some sort of trick Kojima is playing that will have David Hayter return as the voice of Solid Snake. A man can dream. A man can, dream.

I was initially disgusted that David Hayter had been dropped for KS but with time I thought I could get past it as a huge Metal Gear fanboy... But I honestly don't know if I can stomach this game with a voice so different to the iconic Snake voice

I can feel where you're coming from. I've forced myself to accept changes in iconic voices before (Starcraft 2 comes to mind), but really the over-all game experience is lessened for it. In this case, at least from watching this video, its almost jarring now much it feels like his voice is wrong.

Hmm... let's say you're unconscious because of momentary lack of oxygen to the brain (being choked by Snake); if thrown over a cliff, does your equilibrium shock your brain into waking you up before you hit the water?
