Quick Look: Subnautica

@kcin: I'm assuming, since you didn't say so, this isn't on an XB1X? I'm just curious if it looks any better on there. Hard to find anything resembling reliable info on that front, and it's probably where I would get the game if I do.

@sethmode: Nah, this was on a launch XB1 and an XB1 Slim or whatever it's called.

Damn, for as much as I'd looove to play this game, there is no fucking way in hell, nope nope nope. I love the sea, but going into the depths of it? Esp with all the crazy ass shit that's down there in Subnautica? ffffffuck all of that thankyouverymuch.

This game is fantastic in VR as well. Lost a lot of hours playing it that way. Perfect for swimming and the scuba gear view. Also terrifying when something giant appears out of the deep.

Hopefully on PS4 by end of year.

This game is so goddam good. I have almost 40 hours into it and I'm still finding new things.

Is it just me or was the quality of this video really off? Part of the way through the video, it got really washed out, making it almost impossible to see anything and then suddenly went back to normal. There was a weird flickering as well that occurred throughout the entire video. It happened on the SOS unfinished as well... When it's faded, it's almost unwatchable.

Like most people are saying, this game is very well done. Simply put, this is the game No Man Sky should have been.

What were all the bad tweets they were talking about?

Vinny happening to find the island two minutes before the Sunbeam arrives is insane. You can be literally anywhere on the very large map when that happens. There's nothing pointing you to this place either before or after this event, and you'll have no idea what even happened (other than the radio voices talking vaguely about the building). And it all happens to line up right in a Quick Look. Amazing, too bad it makes the QL a bit too spoilery for new players though.

Man, he is really good though. The sound design in this game is amazing. Though so is almost everything else going on. Hopefully he realises that his attitude is getting in the way of him making money and he learns to chill. Though with whats coming out of Poland at the moment I have the feeling his views are fairly widespread in that part of the world.

Whoever said the Cyclops might be the best video game vehicle ever might be onto something. I've been underwater for weeks of in game time at this stage, going out in the mech suit stationed in it's hold to mine resources and build little outposts to charge batteries, make water, build upgrades for the vehicles and scan for more resources. It feels dangerous and like actual exploration in a way I haven't felt for a long time, maybe the 90's. I guess the procedural games have exploration, but it doesn't mean as much as in this handcrafted title. Brilliant.

@thavralex: There's a very clear waypoint in the HUD to the Sunbeam landing site in this QL after Vinny leaves his base. Is this a difficulty thing, and it wasn't enabled for you, maybe?

I haven't played this game, but why did Vinny dehydrate? He had Bulbo trees in his base for water and on that island he was surrounded by giant Bulbo trees, he couldn't harvest them for water?

Oh good he washed up on the beaches of Junon.
