@poisonmonkey: I played this game for quite a while on the Vita. I found it to be too straight forward and not difficult in the least. Eventually it just became repetitive and the lack of difficultly made everything feel really hallow. I didn't play it to the ultimate end game, did I stop too early?

I have loved almost every game in this style. Soul Sacrifice, Freedom Wars, and Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate and all excellent in their own respect. I feel like this game never opened up though. Am I wrong?

I am certainly no expert in these games, I tried Soul Sacrifice and have tried all of the recent Monster Hunters but they have never clicked with me for some reason.

Toukiden so far has been just fun (I am only in chapter 3 at about 26 hours) and it has opened up with the addition of sending your pet out on missions (who you can equip and meet in the battlefield) as well as sending a secondary team (who you cannot meet in the battlefield) out which help the loot grind (the kill a certain number of small monster missions are pretty boring but these were the boring missions in all of these type of games) but I am also just starting to hit some pretty challenging hunt monsters.

I could certainly see that people who love these types of games and like the complexity of Monster Hunter may think this one is a bit dumbed down and easy, but honestly this is one of the things I like about it have not been able to fully enjoy a game of this type before.

Having thought about it I think my main enjoyment of this comes simply from a few main factors:

1) I am playing it on PS4 (its also released on Vita) and I find it is just more comfortable to play long games like this with a controller rather than on handheld.

2) I love the fact that on most missions you are taking a team out who's AI seems really good (giving the illusion of being in a multiplayer game on most missions)

3) The ultimate attacks and new team attacks can wreck enemies and are entertaining to pull off making you feel like a bad ass as you just destroy multiple body parts of a monster in a single hit.

I also played it first on Vita but this new PS4 version just seems to have won me over and it is keeping me from other more high profile games which is an achievement.

I would recommend it to anyone who has looked at or tried a Monster Hunter game but been put off by it complexity (both in combat and structure). Sadly I cannot talk for those who are experts in these games.

Right I am off to dismember a Harrowhalf (I mean look at it, its asking to be dismembered!). Happy hunting.

@powerhunter: If you weren't enjoying it, I can't imagine that playing to the end would've changed anything for you. I did play through it, and there wasn't anything earth shattering. Of course, I only played to the story end and didn't do anything after that, so maybe there were more challenging, fun missions to play after?

I've been enjoying playing the boss battles in Bloodborne co-op, so I thought that maybe I would enjoy a Monster Hunter game. But this looks a bit too simplistic, both mechanically and artistically.

Can the main campaign be played co-op or is co-op just a side thing?

I really love Dynasty Warriors but never got into Monster Hunter, so the opposite of a lot of duders. I need to give this a shot.

Stylistically this game reminds me a lot of Onimusha. I would play a Monster Hunter-style Onimusha game.

Man ive barely played MH (ok i have like 29hrs logged but im only at Harth and feels like ive not really progressed), and i still have Freedom Wars which i payed full price for for some reason sitting on my vita also barely played. There's something about these that is attractive, but i've got plenty on my plate as is.

I'm in the same boat. Bloodborne is monopolizing what little time I have right now, though.

i was WAY into Soul Sacrifice when i spotted the original Toukiden on a sale for the psvita... downloaded it, started it and felt extremely underwhelmed when it came to gameplay and just went back to Soul Sacrifice to play that game until i forgot that this game existed xD

then again Soul Sacrifice is the only game of the kind that i really like sooo... whatever :P

Well played Jason, well played. I'm sure you missed some things but that's alright; we got the gist over here on this sucker.

Now that I think about it, I actually have the original Toukiden on the vita...but I didn't want to play it because it seemed like a better idea on consoles if that makes sense. Guess it's off to the Playstation Store

Come On: You know retail stores aren't going to carry this thing.
