As a newcomer to the series, I'm having a grand time. As someone who normally doesn't like combat in racing, I actually really like how the power ups are implemented.

Perfect game for knocking out a couple races in between sessions of Persona 5, and Nioh.

the aesthetic of wipeout game menus always makes me think a spontaneous game of lumines will break out (and vice versa, i suppose)

Yeah, it's Liverpool. However, the Designers Republic (aka tDR) who did design work (menus, ships, logos, packaging) for the first three Wipeout games and is largely responsible for "the look" people still talk about today, is based in Sheffield.

I never had a PS3 or Vita, so my last time with Wipeout was Pure on the PSP. Imma gonna need this.

Alex. Dan. The reason you feel like you haven't played a Wipeout game since 2048 is that there hasn't been a Wipeout game since 2048.

Also; zone? You go ever faster. You can't brake. That's it.

I may have to pick this up at some point. Just bought Dirt 4 instead. Although, I think each game was free at some point on PS3 or Vita. Hmmm...can I still justify a purchase on the ps4?

Also Sony...LISTSN UP! I want my darn Jet Moto reboot/remaster and I want it now!!!

was (mostly), unfortunately.

On 20 January 2009, after 23 years in operation, tDR went into voluntary liquidation, Anderson bought back the company name and assets, and relaunched tDR as a smaller outfit.

No one mentioned Formula Fusion yet? Think it just dropped on Steam - Kickstarter with some of the original devs from Wipeout and tDR working on the presentation side of it.

Check it out!

Also that QL had some frame rate issues which - considering it was being played on a Pro - is still a concern.

Long live WipEout.

Man, I'd love to see a remaster of WipEout, XL, and 3 done this way. Really digging the Omega collection.

Dan mentioned Wipeout lore, and it reminded me of this video where you have history behind every team in the series. It's information collected from the games manuals and websites.

Have people gone back to F-Zero? It's not as fast as wipeout unless you're playing wipeout on the lowest speed (which Alex is here) and are doing speed exploits in f-zero (snaking etc).

There's also proper physics so you really have to be in control of the vehicle in wipeout games.

TBH, comparing f-zero to wipeout is like comparing Doom II to Quake Champions. They have kind of a similar aesthetic and you shoot in both, that's about it.

Also the Vita and PSP launches were really good. Vita probably had the best lineup of launch games for systems in a long while, Dan doesn't know what he's talking about there.

F-Zero GX is fast. Fast to the point of being farcical. So fast that it can't have anything resembling actual physics, because it just doesn't work. I'm pretty sure it's the single fastest racing game ever made so far, it's in a league completely of its own. The older F-Zero games are more closely matched in speed with Wipeout, minus the intricate physics, but yeah, people should take it easy with the comparisons because basically Wipeout is more like a futuristic racing sim compared to F-Zero's pure arcade shenanigans. That's why I can't stand actually playing Wipeout and love the heck out of F-Zero!

@shroomerz420: Ha , i was in the exact same boat and chose the same games.

I might be wrong, but didn't these games expire after a year or something? I remember there being some pressure behind having to finish those games.

Pretty funny how they stare at a screen titled 'Ship select' while wondering how the vehicles are called in the Wipeout universe.

Wipeout 2097/XL was so distinctive, I don't think it will ever be beat. I remember playing Wipeout Fusion on the PS2, and while I liked the ideas such as upgrading your ship, and the track designs. Something about it just didn't feel right... it was then where I lost interest in the franchise. Zone mode looks cool though! Might pick these up if the price is right.

Dan says both the PSP and Vita libraries weren't great by the end.

Look. I'll give him the Vita, though I think it has a pretty good library myself, with all the great Indies included.

But the PSP never gets any respect, and it has a GREAT library of games. Anyone who says it doesn't have good games wasn't looking.

This to me is practically a new game. I played the shit out of Wipeout HD but couldn't quite get gold on elite difficulty on every race. I played Fury a lot but not nearly as obsessively.

The big thing for me is having 2048 in this package. I wanted to love it on the Vita, but I just couldn't make it work. The problem is that the controls were fixed, and I found it impossible to hold X to accelerate without accidentally hitting the right stick randomly ... which changed the display to rear-view. I tried for hours, but eventually gave up in frustration.

The 2048 tracks are really really good so I'm super happy to have this remastered version to play through them with.
