Quick Look: Wolfenstein: The New Order

@darkeyehails: Yeah, Fatherland in general was more serious, but it was also set in the 1960's and did the "pop music of the 60's but in German", I remember The Beatles being featured specifically.

I can see the humor maybe not working all throughout, but I thought the nightmare level was intended to be a weird nightmare/flashback to his years in prison, which he fled from in the beginning of Wolfenstein 3-D, implying that he survived the events of all the Wolfenstein FPS games, not just the 2009 game.

Those weapon models are so big. I can understand the super weapons taking up 25% of your screen, but having pistols and machine guns taking up that much space is odd. It's like holding a weapon against your chin.

Even with the Quicklook jitters, bad gamepad controls and such Brad took being bad at video games to another level with this one.

Brad & Vinny sure have been spending a lot of time down in those quick-look mines. For whatever reason Vinny mostly seems to demonstrate the quirky games, while Brad does a lot of the more serious/mainstream ones (I guess because he's so good at plaaaaaaying them?). Anyway, I think they may need to reassess their approach to quick-looks in general. I still find them watchable, but they don't seem quite as inspired lately. I get the feeling that it's turned into a bit of a chore that they're just having to push through several times a week, and I'd really like to see them enjoying themselves again in more than just the rare moment. Except Jeff. Jeff is our slave, and must do as he is told. (like that'll happen)

NEVER underestimate Brad's ability to play a game the completely wrong way and suck at it. Go Brad!

I like Brad, and think he's a funny guy. I don't even genuinely think he's bad at games either. The only problem I've ever had with him is that's he's been a bit moody lately, and that's about it. I try to check myself from jumping on the pick-on-Bradwagon too often, since I'd never want him to take that stuff too much to heart... but I admit I did succumb just a moment ago (bad me, bad me...). The force was just too powerful to be resisted.

Quick look successful purely for the "I want THAT!!" moment.

@bunnellius: Hahahaha Your even-handed, and accurate, in my opinion, assessment of the current state of Quick Looks doesn't count as hating on Brad. You're still a good person, don't worry. I'd actually widen your observations to other parts of Giant Bomb, including the Bombcast.

I'm going to invoke a name we don't like to hear too often these days, but please bear with me. I think Giant Bomb, particularly Jeff, Brad, and Vinny, has lost some of its fire since Ryan passed. And I can't blame them. He was at least 75% of the passion and energy that has fueled the site since its inception, and he was their beloved friend. Going to work every weekday, seeing the Ryan fan art, reading daily forum discussion (and Quick Look comments) about him, all that stuff must constantly fill them with bittersweet feelings. So you're not wrong at all. That sort of discussion, if rational and fair, is necessary for the betterment of Giant Bomb. Don't hold that sort of stuff in your brain, even if it might sound a bit harsh, as long as you don't mean it to be harsh.

P.S. Writing this comment caused me to look at the bottom of the webpage. Fuck that GameSpot logo. We don't need that shit here, man!

I love that this game exists.

Man, the actual game part of this game...doesn't look that good. The interface and notification gets lost in the action, the small FOV doesn't help and shooting control looks pretty stiff with a keypad. Also partially regen health doesn't work with armor system that well in this kind of shooter.

But everything that is around the game looks interesting, the alternate history, different version of famous figures with a little tongue in cheek touch, and the characters scene along with the walking around the base seems interesting enough.

Worst Quick-Look on GB. Brad makes this game look terrible simply because of the way he is playing it. This game is super fun when you're running and gunning, and sliding, which Brad does not do once in combat. Don't get me wrong I love Brad, he is just playing it like CoD, which is not the intention here.

The lines that Blazkowicz says at the very start of the 'nightmare' are REALLY serious and somber compared to what is actually going on. It actually tells me how much they are willing to develop him as an actual 3-dimensional character.

The most interesting thing about this game is having a laser fence cutter. That's about it.

Shooting seems kind of fun though. If it hits like $10 on a Steam sale maybe I'll check it out.

This game looks like a weird mix of looking decent and looking like shit visually... What the hell is up with those flat textures of forks laying all over the place.

Ouch, this game looks rough. It plays nicely but I sort of expected this game to look a bit better.

I don't mean to be a jerk to Brad, but does he not see those giant red arrows on his reticle whenever there is a grenade/shock bomb near him? I've played up to this point on my own, I noticed those things right away.

Games looks like the sort of thing i'd pick up on sale maybe at one point in the future to just blast through one day... Also maybe Vinny should have taken the helm and helped Brad out... Bit painful to watch at points when Brad doesn't concentrate.

Wish he would stand back when he's trying to cut the metal grates... Just STAND BACK.

You can see the Starbreeze DNA all over this: Great character moments, pretty wicked tongue-in-cheek writing and well-shot cinematics. Also, German Beatles.

Seems most of the problems stems from using a controller. I think this game looks pretty great.

Wow this was so frustrating to watch.

In the beginning every 5 steps Brad took he had to then stop for a second. Really bothered me while watching this that i had to stop.

I can't remember the last time I finished a quicklook. I'd much rather 30 minutes of information instead of an hour and a half of brad doing a glorified lets play.

You can stop the video anytime you want you know? There is no law that once you start a quicklook that you must finish said quickook

The Wolfenstein 3D nightmare... yeah, I'll play this. Would be cool if there was a Return to Castle Wolfenstein nightmare as well.

The first proper level they play happens to be the one I played at EGX last year.

Not that Brad needs me to defend him, but I imagine playing a game for a QL must be difficult. Trying to balance making progress with showing off interesting parts of the game along with having an interesting conversation about the gamesounds like a bitch.

Personally, I can just about manage to scratch my balls and sip a Coke while I'm playing a game and that's about it. Any attempt at conversation results in either me dying in-game or the other person getting angry at my stunted replies. Sometimes both.

Cut the guy some slack maybe? Or just laugh about it instead of getting worked up?

Yah having pens and stuff ON textures is a little outdated at this point. I can understand them not having time or wanting to create 3D models for pens and forks no one will ever use but c'mon.. those textures just look bad.

I think this game looks like a blast. Its obviously not for everyone, but it seems like fun FPS with a bit of throw back feel.

I was surprised by the cornucopia of negativity in reaction to this quick look. Sometimes i wonder who is forcing people to watch these vids, if something made me that miserable, id just turn it off.

This just made me excited to get my hands on the game.

It's kind of amazing how easily we can suspend logic in these games because we are so used to just doing the next objective mindlessly. Standing on an elevator while you disengage all the breaks is a pretty illogical thing to do.

This was hard to watch.
