Spelunky progress: got Big Money and Speedlunky over the weekend. Now working on Low Scorer UGHHH

Died in the black market trying to buy the jetpack. Think I beat Patrick still though...

Hey @patrickklepek, if you want some advice from a random dude who may or may not know what he's talking about, I think you need to change your playing philosophy when it comes to the Daily Challenge. You seem too intent on making it farther when you should be more focused on just getting money. I would recommend not buying anything at all during the Daily Challenge and definitely not buying the jetpack. You might not make it to the Ice Caves but if you're really hounding for treasure, you can probably make a very nice amount of cash by the time you get to the Jungle. More than enough to more often than not #beatremo.

I gotta say this feature is only good for the death reactions.

Inspired by @patrickklepek's learning process, I went back to this game for the first time since I "beat" it in November. I jumped straight into the Daily Challenge with my first run.

To say I had a lucky run would be an understatement!


Jet-packs sure are OP. ;)

I also beat Olmec!

Of course, when I alt+tabbed out to check my screenshots, the game crashed with a "Error: Loading Texture Pack" message (a known bug, apparently), so it doesn't appear to have saved my run in my normal high-scores against my friends. Bummer. :( Though I do still show up on today's Daily Challenge leader-board!

You don't need the Maiden to get into the worm level, and that level is rather extreme.

One of the crappy things about going to the Black Market. Sometimes, the enemies inside can actually trigger the Shop Keeper without you doing anything. It's pretty random, but it does happen. More often inside the Black Market.

If there's anything Spelunky teaches us, it's "don't trust yourself".

You don't want to get cocky when it comes to the jet pack. If any enemy, such as a frog, is jumping up into you while you are in an upward trajectory, it will count as a hit.

I messed up a jump today and hit an arrow trap in 1-2. Also, I think I hate using a 360 controller to play Spelunky.

@patrickklepek just a non spoiler tip. if you absolutely have no other options to dealing with arrow traps, a well timed whip swing at the on coming arrow will reflect it.

Great episode, @patrickklepek. I would recommend though that if you're going to buy 15+ bombs, use them a little more freely. I usually use them to clear out traps, irritating spike pits, bomb down through levels where going around could end in your untimely death.

Whatever you do, try not to get knocked out and fall on top of a Kali altar. I knew not to do this, and yet it still happened to me in this daily challenge.

He knows. The fact is that that requires some crazy precision. Ive been able to do it once, and it was when falling. If you're in a situation where you have one above you, it seems like trying to whip it would be futile.

Spelunkin' with Scoops, now more daily than the Daily Dota.

I've played a zillion hours of this game, and I'm honestly a bit baffled as to what happened when he died from that spider.

@cthomer5000: He probably grabbed the ledge instead of squashing the spider, and as you can only squish stuff while airborn, got knocked into the spikes.

@patrickklepek Also remember the arrow does have travel time, and at a certain distance you can fall through before the arrow hits you. I don't remember the exact number of tiles, but that did look like a safe distance.

This continues to be cool, and my friends list continues to be lively.

Spookin' is fun because Patrick suffers in ways that I'm afraid to try out. But with Spelunkin' I get to share the pain. Great!

@development: @rapid: @sunbrozak: Thanks to you guys who enjoyed the title art! There's a couple of variants over in the original thread I posted.

The hardest lesson I learned playing Spelunky was the fact that downward momentum is the only thing that stomps enemies. Standing on or hanging off of a ledge will not save you from a spider or a frog jumping up into you. If what Patrick said is true about a PS3 run in the CAH office I look forward to finally being able to compete with Patrick's scores.
