Seems like he expected the bomb to kill it, which I think I would have expected as well, but either way he probably could have avoided it by committing harder to that run under.

Missed the bomb throw at the thwomp in real time. That's probably why he started moving under it. Still hilarious either way.

@juda: Hahaha yeah, this year has been very heavy with Demon's/Dark Souls and Spelunky so far. I feel like Giant Bomb went back a year on accident over New Years with all that time travel end-of-the-year stuff.

On a real note, Patrick I think you should get rid of your trial run all together. Or just "e-sports" it? The past couple of videos have had great trial runs and less than stellar daily challenge runs. Just a thought, keep up the great work.

I feel like this suffering is well deserved after Patrick got so cocky after those couple of good runs. "I'm so good. Looks like this feature is almost over guys".

Oh my god, my brain just froze when he got rid of that block next to the Tiki Trap (which was completely unnecessary btw) and proceeded to STAND RIGHT NEXT TO THE TIKI TRAP. Fucking hell Patrick. That's some Spelunky 101 there.

Is anyone else getting a lot of the same seeds as Patrick in normal play each day? I've seen a number of them now that I had already experienced [and often died in a similar manner]

Hmm, we've tried in the past. It didn't really work for me--my dailys plummeted. Plus, we're trying to beat Yama, so I don't mind having two chances at that per day.

@patrickklepek: I think you just need to find a balance? It almost seems like you are caring too much about the practice run and using a lot of your daily quota for Spelunky patience. Maybe limit your practice run to getting out of the Jungle, then quit and start the daily? Or maybe do you think that getting gold for the daily and beating Yamma on a stream cause a conflict of interest.

To quote Allen Iverson: "We're talking about practice here. Not a game. Practice."

I used to be really good at throwing bombs at the big spiders, I'd only mess it up if the angle was super bad, but for whatever reason after I started watching Patrick it suddenly it's like 50/50 if I'll kill the spider or mess it up.

Opening the shortcuts might be a good idea to get practice dealing with thwomps, with and without bombs. And really, giving Tunnelman your shotgun isn't that big a deal. You'll only have it for 1/2 levels max before you have to kill yourself and give it up anyway, and the caves are easy to avoid enemies in.

Patrick, I feel your pain, but these also make me laugh a lot first thing in the morning, and I really appreciate that.

Yesterday I made it to the City of Gold with over 50 bombs, a Jet Pack, a Shotgun, and plenty of health. My character entered the level, and there was a dart trap immediately to my right which was (of course) triggered by my entry into the level. My character survived the dart trap, but was flung towards the left side of the screen, where his body came to rest beneath one of those Crush Trap (Thwomp) blocks; my character was ground into a fine paste before I even had a chance to react.

@driftspace: It's times like those where I curse this game. 90% skill, 10% luck.

When I saw the picture of the thwomp for the vid I knew it was going to be death by thwomp, i just didn't think it was going to be that one. This has become my favorite feature Patrick and also gotten me completely obsessed with spelunky.

whenever patrick dies and he does his facepalm thing facing away from the camera, i wonder if i should call the suicide helpline for him :(
