@jstaunton: Honestly, it's like people have skipped the last 3-4 weeks in which the "tossed salad and scrambled eggs" bit has been mentioned multiple times.

I want Vinny to get deep into modern board games and talk about his experiences every week! I have over 200 games at this point (I have a problem) and have been really excited to hear him mention them on recent podcasts. Some coworkers and I are playing Roll Player, Stone Age, and Five Tribes tomorrow.

Tossed Salad.

Correction it was Indigo and Jet Black Gamecubes at launch, Spice Orange came later and was only available in Japan but the orange controllers were available worldwide.

Dan can’t be Longshot. Longshot’s luck powers only work when his motivations are ‘pure’ or else he actually gets bad luck and Dan is far too evil for that since he never had had an unlucky moment in his life. Dan is Domino from X-Force since she’s a mercenary who usually is on the ‘good’ side but will get dirty when motivated.

This was the best episode in a good long while, I laughed out loud several times. But I do miss Abbey as well. Good times all around.

Edit: Ah, sorry you corrected yourself later... Was very muddled when you brought it up first, but exactly right during questions.

Emulation is entirely legal to the point Sony have legal instructions not to legally harass emulator authors after the Bleem! case. There is no legal grey area whatsoever. Emulation legal, sharing copyrighted material, not so much.

@curiosus: I wouldn't go so far as saying there is no legal grey area, in so far as emulators must be wholly original in their code base. If they include code from the actual OS/BIOS, etc, and distribute that, then that is illegal. Which is why a lot of emulator providers will not provide BIOS files if necessary. They typically tell you to "supply your own". PCSX2, for instance does not provide BIOS downloads, but do provide a BIOS dumping tool for you to dump your own from a console.

Thats not a grey area. The BIOS is just another piece of copyrighted code like any rom. Initialising the virtual system yourself based on an understanding of the bios is legal. The only thing I think we have unanswered questions on are breaking DRM schemes which even older systems sometimes have, and the overbroad nature of the DMCA makes that awkward even when the protection scheme is ancient and well-documented, and sales long since ceased.

@curiosus: I said the emulator can't contain any proprietary OS code either, along with distribution of the BIOS. That's where the grey area is, FOR THE END USER. No, the laws are well laid out for the devs of said emulators, but we are also trusting that they developed them in adherence to those laws.

If the developer concealed the use of copyrighted code and then distributed it there is no way the end user is going to be held responsible by a court. Thats not really something to worry about. Even ethically speaking if you object to breaking copyright the end user is still not doing anything wrong.

I had no idea that Madden wasn't coming out on PC every year. That's how my brother mainly played it once the N64 fell out of favor.

Nice to have Vinny back on emails this week, he seems genuinely appreciative of people sending them in, which has felt like something that has been missing for awhile.
