@vinny: Look into RO/DI water filter setup to make drinking water from RO filter and pure deionized water for fun stuffs. I use my DI water to make salt water for aquarium.
im trying to add this podcast to pocketcast but im having trouble. I followed this and I couldn't get the latest episodes ( Latest episodes in 2017). I'm a premium member, but I just dont care if its the free version, just need this on pocketcasr.
For some Minecraft mods, even when it says you need Java, you sometimes don't. I found a guide on how to use the Java files that Minecraft has and kind of backdoor through those files in order to run a Java installer. I was able to install Optifine without actually having Java installed, which is something you're supposed to need.
@brad just in case you're interested, an alternative interpretation of the 3-2-1 backup schema is to keep 3 copies of data, on two different types of media, with one of those copies kept offsite.
Two types of media were typically disk and tape (but many enterprises are shifting to use cloud as the "second media type" instead of tape... even though a cloud repository is basically just disk sitting somewhere else!)
I love when you discuss this stuff on the pods!!!!
@jeff if you want to circumvent all that manual installation hassle for Forge, I'd recommend using the modpacks found in the Twitch App, or alternatively the Technic Launcher. (Both use Forge, but they automate the install)
@dbinshal93@mclargepants I was able to just copy the link from the RSS button under the audio version and paste it into Pocket Casts search bar and it came straight up. Just make sure you are logged into your GB account on whatever mobile browser you are using, mine has a habit of logging me out regularly.
I played Mass Effect 1, 2 and 3. I wouldn't play them again, no matter what the quality or story improvements etc. They had their day and gaming has moved on. I get nostalgia, it's not my thing, so I have no interest in most older games. Though I would recommend those games if they were remastered to someone who hasn't played them, only if they've done the remaster well.
If you have ever built a computer and you test it out side taht case to be careful. And, it won't POST, so you start removing components to figure out which one is not working and NOTHING works....then you know a computer can make you cry! "...it is the mother board, right" you think? But, you bough that three months ago and it is a bitch to do return merchandise authorization (RMA).
@dbinshal93: For me I had to add the podcast using the RSS. feed They my podcast app had to be set to enter my 'username' and 'password' for Giant Bomb.
Windows 10 is supposed to be getting sandboxing at some point so you won't need a separate hypervisor. I think programs can even be run individually so they appear as local windows, instead of a whole new desktop.
Finally, a tech podcast where everyone on it knows about as much as I do! Like Vinny, I'll fuck around with linux here and there to see which I like, but once instead of VMs I dual-booted my PC and spent 3 days trying to get the wireless drivers working while jumping between my OS boots because only one of them got online. They installed fine but the speeds were so bad it was unusable. Eventually I discovered that generic realtek wireless drivers work better than the drivers from the manufacturer. Go figure.
appreciated the little history of EA here. Such a weird company, I miss when they made stuff like the LOTR movie games and random shit. Hopefully they start taking more chances next gen, the star wars dogfighting game looks neat.
Am I the only one who didn't really understand any part of the beginning tech talk? It all sounded like a foreign tongue to me. I enjoyed it, don't get me wrong, I just didn't understand any of it.
@tepidshark: God I still remember that story about Dan standing in line in San Francisco because he heard they were giving away Raspberry Pi's. Still cracks me up.
@brad Have you considered upgrading to 10 gig ethernet in the house? I recently updated everything that can be upgraded to it to that standard. I was able to find a lot of 4 server pull Intel X540-T1 cards on ebay for under $600 with shipping. I think it would be fun to see how high your upload/download speed could go. Personally, it was a 'because I'm bored' project for the house, but it was amazing how fast backups to the NAS finished after I was done. I'm using Cat 6a.
also @vinny, the titan x is a 9 series card, the titan xp is the 10 series, quite a big difference. the rtx 2070 youve got is considerably more powerful than the titan x you are using. the titan x is almost a gtx1070
@threepwood52: at first they were talking about nvidia graphics card series, after that they are talking about hard drive formats. NTFS for window. fat32 for dos. HFS for Macs. Samba is the LAN protocol we had to use to get Windows and Mac machines to talk together. Also much of it is talking just about hard drive brands like Western Digital and Seagate. youre not missing out on much. Barracuda drives are old mechanical drives no one uses anymore, NVME are the fastest solid state hard drives you can get. I hope that translates somewhat well lol.
@vinny I just migrated my old boot drive and storage drive to a bigger SSD and an NVMe drive, respectively. I used the freeware "AOMEI Partition Assistant", which let me clone individual partitions and re-order them on the new drives. I had to rebuild the EFI boot sector with a Windows command prompt tool, but I think that's because I was delving too deep and too greedily with reordering partitions.
